I downloaded iTunes 9 the other day and alsobthe 3.1 software for my iPod touch 2nd generation. But I can't actaully get the software onto my iPod because I guess they changes the landscape and my computer cuts off the option, under the summary tab on my iPod, to update software WTF do I do??? Please help fast!!!! Getting more annoyed by the minute

I was at the Apple store today picking up my computer, and the guy next to me got his Touch replaced after the wifi died with the 3.1.1 update. No problems or questions.....
3.0 fixed my wifi - so i'm afraid to try 3.1.1 and have it break!
I don't have apple care though.I can get it but it's also a 1st gen and they won't replace it for me with a new one.even if I bought apple care for it.
