well it still has like games with 22GB!!!111!!1!!!, with ONE WHOLE GB of AUDIO ONLY..if thats not next gen i don't know is!
and it turns out Sony are pulling all blue lasers for PS3 too. Good for PS3 stock, bad for other next gen video players.
Its probably due to heat. Those 7800 chips are VERY hot runners. The RSX is based off of the GeForce 7800 GPU.
I dont exactly trust the Inquirer though. >.>
Are those really the PS3's GPU specs? They're not that much faster than my 9600 pro (400mhz core, 450mhz memory). which is a good 3-4 or so years old now! I just thought it would be faster, seeing it's the PLAYSTATION 3 and all.
The actual speeds of the chip dont matter. The 7800 which is what the RSX is based off of is up to 9x faster than a 9800XT. A 9800XT is almost 3x as fast as a 9600.
Clock speed is almost useless for comparing GPU's of different architecture.
I've seen graphics cards of one brand outperform graphics cards of another brand with three times the clock speed.
It's primary use is for measuring how much you overclock the card by
yea sorry, I dropped out of the graphics card game way before I got my last video card.
"will it run Doom 3?"
all I know now is DX9, 10 etc. and that 10 will be beautiful.
What it does mean is the GPU on it's own - which was less powerful than the 360's - is now even more so.
somehow im not surprised...
where did this guy get his source from though? seems kinda odd...
I think the PS3's GPU actually had more polygon-pushing power than the XBox 360's, though I might be wrong.
The XBox 360's is very well designed though, with the free antialiasing, so it took less work to do some of the effects (like 4x AA) and the result was that the XBox 360 does better in most real-world situations because while the PS3's actually is faster it has more bottlenecks and thus takes it more work to do some things.
i would love for all the rumors and secrets to stop and for Sony (and Nintendo for that matter) to just say "OK! here's the deal..." and explain it all. Sony shouldnt' be changing things this close to launch, get those damn things on the production line. IGN keeps saying "Sony has more in store at TGS!" well they said that at E3, then at GC now at TGS, just say what you have to say damn it!
ok I feel better, I realize its all marketing (and probably some mistakes trying to be covered up) but still! its driving me nuts.
not a bad article, kinda long but makes you wonder about the direction Sony is going
I'm a little worried, I need some positive sony news. I am a fan, but they gotta get some good press.
To PS3 buyers - If it means the system being out sooner is a possibility then isn't that a good thing? Sure Sony have gone back on what they originally said, anyone who didn't think that would happen deserves a Japanese PSX. It's like Sony altering the shift of Blue laser diodes from everywhere to the PS3. They just want the machine out.
Indeed....I'm taking all of this crap with a grain of salt.....there just chipping away at the PS3....oh well whatever.
Sony just bring it soon so all of this trash could stop.
You teh sux0r 2 sae teh PS3 is not going to teh r0x0r! Yew lie, yew 360 luvr. U teh sux! U maek thing up, go die!!!1111one!1!!!1 heheheheh
hahaha, I was waiting for that. Anyone read on joystiq today that they are having trouble with their blu-ray laser production? Does this mean laser problems similar to the early PS2s?
Exactly. I don't even own any video game systems so don't see this as a PS3 supporting vote, but I think due to the source of this article (The Inquirer) people need to stop treating it like it's a fact...
Oh man, that's funny. Not funny "ha, ha" but funny "D'oh!" As if the launch of Blu-ray hasn't been hampered enough. If Sony keeps this up HD-DVD will win by default 'cause Blu-ray can barely get out of the starting gate.
Aaaaaaaa, I just grammar sporked myself!
Let me guess, you didn't go to the supplied link in first post?
I think it's safe to say the 360 and PS3 will now be (pretty much) on par with each other graphically.
From what I remember, they were before, thus meaning that on paper, the PS3 is worse
The Inquirer is the National Enquirer of the tech world.
Uh Oh. I bet they will still market it the same as the most powerful. I am really excited to see what happens with this system.
