So I got a custom 2018, and the Beats from the edu deal didn't work. I was at the Apple store for another issue and forgot the Beats, but asked an employee about it. They said to bring them, they'll swap them out, and also exchange for a different color (since my girlfriend didn't like my original choice).

Well I just went back in the next day, and they can't do anything because they need my laptop to do any processing. Well this is frustrating because I had just asked the day before. Talked to a manager, and that didn't get me anywhere either.

I'm not sure why they can't be processed as defective and just swap out on the spot, instead of processing a return for the whole order and then re-purchasing the whole order (this is what they said they had to do).

So I went home and called the MY-APPLE number, and they'll process it in 3-5 days. Unfortunately, they said they can't swap the color, they have to do what's on the original order.

This is just everything I was told, maybe others have different experiences. But I'm just frustrated by how much trouble this is. So if you're going to do anything with your Beats, maybe take your laptop just in case.

They just need the serial number, you don't actually have to bring the laptop in. With both serial numbers they can return/replace at will. For some reason, they can't replace / "return" one serialized item on the order without the other.

They could have found the serial number on the order and under their Apple ID if set up machine.

Really wish I could exchange the Beats Solo for the Studio and just pay the difference :/

I think you could upgrade for $50, I read some ppl had done it before.
Apparently you need to be very lucky for that. The terms of the promotion specifically state a product can only be exchanged for another promotional item, which the Studio's aren't. But apparently some managers have manually overridden it, while others have been a firm no.

I had an issue last year where I forgot to add the Beats to my custom ordered MacBook Pro and I couldn't get them in the store during in-store pickup because their system wouldn't allow it, so I had to return the MacBook and reorder a new one with the Beats. I believe it's due to the online store and retail store operating separately, so there's a lot of hassle involved in certain situations.

In the UK the store can do a swap for a different colour but not all the staff are aware of how to do it. They basically refund the Beat headphones onto a gift card and then use the gift card to buy another colour. I had to go into the store twice after speaking to online customer services and asking for the store manager.
