Hey,

I've purchased a Macbook Pro 16" and would like to purchase the AppleCare as well (it's still less than 60 days old), but I live in a country where the AppleCare is not being sold officially. I do have a friend in Canada who could buy it online for me though - does anybody have any experience with this? I'm mainly interested in these points:

1. Is it even possible to obtain the AppleCare this way?

2. Apple says you need to run a remote diagnostic tool - does this tool require you to log in with the Apple ID that's used to purchase the AppleCare? If not, how is the result of the diagnostic sent to Apple?

3. Apple says you can transfer your AppleCare rights to another party - now since my friend would be the buyer, would they have to transfer the rights to me in order for me to have my Macbook serviced, or does Apple only care whether the AppleCare has been activated or not?

Thank you!
- Tom

You don’t have to do anything to transfer AppleCare - when you bring your machine in they just check if the machine is registered for AppleCare that has not yet expired.

But what good is AppleCare to you if it’s not sold in your country? How would you use AppleCare in the event that you need to?

Firstly, I purchased the MacBook during my travel in Australia, however I'm now back in Europe. I would like to have 3 years of coverage on my machine - I'm assuming AppleCare+ is international coverage, since we do have local Apple authorized service providers that honor AppleCare+.

I think that whilst you may be fine with Apple Care+, the other consumer rights protections that Europe provides may well be null and void.

In theory that might make it harder to get warrenty work performed.

Your best bet is to speak to Apple and not us here.
