InsideMacGames reports that Quake IV concept art has been leaked, and was distributed to certain web sites.

id Software is taking a hard stance against any media outlets that use this artwork:

"We do not know the source of these leaked assets. Please be warned that id Software has instructed Activision that we are not to work with any magazine which uses any of these assets. If any magazine does so, id Software will not allow any assets for id games to be sent to these magazines in the future."

HA!

As some of us in New York would say:

"That's gansta!!"

That's one hell of an ultimatum, don't ya think?!

Can we say Doom III meets Halo? Seriously, when I first saw them I thought they all came from Doom III... except I didn't expect to see vehicles...

That's some nice stuff! But I wonder if the game models will be that complex....the 3d models might be for movies or promos and they'll use them to create the texture maps and culled models for the game.

Man, those are tight. Those screens were from a modler using Studio Max it looks like. That's quite a bounty of smuggled screens for just a leak...hmmm....

roman numerals

Someone at id messed up on their roman numerals. Those screenshots are from a prototype for Quake IX. It's expected to be used with the Radeon II Extreme 27000 (1.8Ghz, 2GB of ram). Base Mac is a Quad 6Ghz G5 with a 3Ghz bus. Alpha is due Nov 2007.

Keep in mind that concept renders are better than real time game renders...

Or, in 2005, it might be the other way around... :)

yeah, looks like those screenshots are from a Maya preview window (the axis, the text...but I might be wrong). They use those high rez models to render out texture and especially 'normal maps' to include lighting detail on game models without the geometry overhead.

normal map explained

Those characters and levels in the leaked photos are almost as demonic as the characters in Doom, why don't they just put both games together and be done with it. I would like to see more 3rd person shooters that don't take place in hell thank you.
I wonder what the mac specs will be to run this at the average setting.

Wow, that's some slick stuff. I'd like to be able to use that in Lightwave for my own rendering, not for exporting or just creating the map. Its a great way to get patterned details that go well beyond bumpmapping...

Actually they will probably be PCI-EXPRESS ATI and Nvidia plan to release their next cards using this spec. PCI-Express crushes AGP, PCI-X, and about every other bus there is.

Heres to hoping Apple puts it in G5 sooner rather than later.

I wouldn't be surprised if the models sooked that detailed in the game (through the blur of death and bloodspray) considering the incredible complexity of the Doom III models' appearances. Doom III looks nuts, I could only guess that Quake IV will look nutsier.
