Besides the usual $175 ETF, I don't think so.

No charge for porting a number, anywhere (at least in the US).

EFT = Early Termination Fee when you cancell your contract with AT&T

Early Termination Fee. The poster is assuming your contract with AT&T (or what ever provider you have) is not over.

If you're 2 year contract is up don't worry about it. It not, you have to pay to get out of your contract.

Don't you have to transfer the number before you cancel?

That was what I was getting out of this after re-reading the thread title.

If you cancel, get a phone on Verizon, then try to port your ATT number to it, you'll probably be SOL. That number should just go back into their pool of available numbers for anyone to pick up. If someone else gets it, you're screwed.

So you'll want to get the account BEFORE you cancel with ATT.

You definitely have to port the number BEFORE you cancel. Porting will cancel your contract with AT&T too.

Open the account with Verizon and tell them to port your number. When that happens, your account with AT&T will automatically close and you will receive a final bill including any termination fee if you owe them one.
