Also, it no longer actually duplicates the file. APFS sort of creates an alias to a file, not a duplicate of that file, when you open in an app.
This is very interesting to me. Say you open a document in Pages from files. Are you saying the changes you make to the document are saved in the original file?
Also, if you delete the file from where it was opened, is it no longer available in the app where the alias was created?
Thank you for your response. So you can't download and save from an email link? I'm not sure I understand your answer. I have a client that sells video downloads. I'm wondering if we finally have a non-app based direct download pathway to iOS devices.
If you open a Pages document, it will save to wherever the file is stored. If you delete the file in Pages and choose the option to remove from iCloud Drive, it’s gone. Same way if you delete in Files, it will be gone and unavailable in Pages. That much I unfortunately am not well versed enough to answer. I'd defer to a developer who perhaps attended the sessions
That's awesome! So now developers can actually read files from that common folder without having to store it?If you open a Pages document, it will save to wherever the file is stored. I haven’t experimented this behavior with third party apps. Apple is generally better at this stuff than third parties. Also, this just from me using the new OS personally, not from a WWDC session. Also, do you have a session link that explains this? Thank you
Thank you! Much appreciated. I've been an android developer for about two years, I think I can handle it (as far as complexity is concerned).I haven’t experimented this behavior with third party apps. Well it’s Apple’s app, so technically they can do whatever.Thank you! Much appreciated. I've been an android developer for about two years, I think I can handle it (as far as complexity is concerned).
Also, as long as Pages is an AppStore app, it has to abide by the rules of a third-party app shouldn't it? One exception I've found of this rule is GarageBand which allows you to add ringtones.
