Does it make sense to force install HS on HFS+ and SSD if:

- I want normal boot speed
- I want normal wake from sleep
- I want normal app launch time speed

...by normal I mean same as Sierra, at least.

My boot ROM is MP51.0089.B00 as I have already updated the firmware on my Mac Pro 5,1 (mid-2012).

I have already installed High Sierra twice using APFS, when it came out last fall (10.13), and about a month ago (10.13.6). Both times I ended up reverting to Sierra because there was a decrease in performance. Not that going to HS is a requiremennt for me, but with Mojave around the corner, I'd like to keep my system more current before I upgrade my GPU and make the jump to Mojave later.

Do you have Trim enabled?
When I ‘eventually’ upgrade to HS (or I may even miss it and go to Mjve. I don’t remember so many bugs (HS) since Lion), I will probably keep it HFS+, as I don’t trust the conversion to APFS (but that’s just me)......:)

Yes I have trim enabled, no issue under Sierra. I know that APFS and trim don't get along very well, so *if* I go to HS again, it will certainly be on HFS+, but I'm kinda tired of cloning my system ;) so I want to make sure it's worth it before upgrading.
