That's great info--LOTS of Spotlight power.

Apple definitely needs to bring some of these buried and techy features up to the surface. All of Spotlight's power, boolean's, etc., should be easily accessible (and documented), with flexible and simple English/math-like syntax (not like these Raw Query examples) in ALL Spotlight implementations--including the top bar, Mail, and Finder.

I'd say there's a good chance they'll do that with a free Tiger update--considering how they have enhanced Dashboard as needed.

But one way to make sure :)

I submitted my feedback--including an example of how a query with SIMPLE syntax (english OR, not || symbols) might look.

not to sidetrack this thread, but does anyone else have real problems with spotlight?

I just searched my applications folder for the word adobe and had no results until 1 minute 15 seconds. 3 minutes later it finishes with 5000 odd results (perhaps the right number, just 2:59 minutes too late). Then, seconds later, they all disappear. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't.

The finder is locked up for all this time. In fact, it's still locked up while i type this post. I guess I'll have to force quit the finder again.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

Not sure--I'm still Tigerless :( but it sounds like it's finding "Adobe" in metadata--like any file created BY an Adobe product. Odd how it filters those results out after the fact--but I'd say you're seeing it happen because so MANY files have Adobe in the metadata. That makes it slow enough to be annoying.

    Pure guess.
