I have been lurking these boards for well over 4 years now, and never once have I seen this level of volume of Rumored/leaked parts that we are seeing for the iPhone 5(6). Not to beat a dead horse here, but if these components are real, these leaks have produced TWICE as many components as any other previous iPhone that I can remember. So, if Tim Cook is currently "doubling down on secrecy", then wouldn't that mean he has failed somewhere around 400% worse than Steve Jobs ever did at keeping things under wraps?

I'm not trying to be controversial, nor funny, but it seems to me that something just doesn't add up. No cease and desist orders, no action whatsoever...not even a statement from apple. Is Tim Cook really that bad at controlling privacy? Or is he a marketing genius?

Personally, I would be perfectly content with the Leaked iPhone being the real thing, but a small part of me is still having a hard time believing that this isn't either a controlled leak or a very elaborate hoax.

"Doubling down on secrecy" does NOT mean that controlled leaks won't occur. It only means that they'll be putting extra effort into ensuring nothing but controlled leaks occur.

Steve Jobs was a genius at misdirection. What makes you think Tim isn't doing the same, whether or not the leaks are controlled? Too many of you are falling for it.

So are you implying that these leaks are real AND controlled by Apple? What would be the benefit of Apple leaking the real components/body?

    ----------

Well, that partially makes sense to me, but again, what is the benefit of leaking REAL next-gen iPhone components prior to the Sept. 12 event? I can understand a release of fake/prototype components to throw competitors for a loop, but i can't understand why Apple would leak their own "secret" device.

This is pretty much how I feel.

I just dont understand how this many leaks can get out. I definitely dont understand how this many leaks can get out and no one has been arrested or at least fired for this disaster.

At some point you have to say that all these leaks together are just as bad as the the iPhone 4 being left at the bar. According to these rumors, we know exactly what the next iPhone will look like and to me, this is just waaaay too easy. Just doesnt seem right.

Three people were fired and arrested last year from Foxconn for leaking iPad 2 parts. The whole Dam phone has been leaked this year and everything is just honky dory. WTH?!!

I agree with your initial comment, if this is indeed real, and they were controlling the leaks... His comment about secrecy is a failure of epic proportions.

I cannot wait for September 12th... I want the truth, what will we get??

Not necessarily. It's possible that the leaks were beyond Apple's control, but rather than issue cease and desist orders (which would only confirm the leaks as real), they're saying they're "going to" work on secrecy doubling starting with the 7th generation iPhone.

Either that or they're controlling the leaks to generate publicity and misdirecting you, as Steve Jobs was known to do. Nobody knows for sure.

I agree 110%. I don't believe we have a clue as to what the next rendering will look like. This is the Apple machine at its best.

Everyone is obsessed with these physical leaks. Wouldn't it be cool to have an implanted one as shown in the latest "Total Recall"? Instead of choosing black or white, you'd have to choose right-hand or left-hand. But would your hand shake if you had it on vibrate?

I think way too much has been made about Tim's comments
People have zeroed in on that one statement and built huge conspiracy theories around it

And while we are at it, Steve was neither a god nor the devil as many attempt to make him out

It is a phone people... a phone
    Keep that in mind

The phone is one month before release...what do you expect? You can't hide millions of parts, especially since its an Apple device. Pretty sure Apple has already started working on the 2013 iPhone - but we won't know anything until next year.

 Don't oversimplify it. Yes, it's only a phone, but It's a phone that has propelled Apple into being the most valuable brand name in the history of the planet. Conspiracy theories and open discussion about leaked parts are going to come with the territory.

"Double-down on secrecy" = "Mission Accomplished"

Maybe Apple needs a banner or something...

Enough of that Tim Cook quote already. It's his job to say crap like that. Aside from that, it's an extremely vague quote. If he had said "from this moment on the iPhone design will be kept under wraps until our keynote" then you would all have a reason to slag him. But he didn't. He said a very general statement that makes the average shareholder happy. Just as every good CEO does. That quote has been tossed around here so much lately like it is some sort of smoking gun. It's not.

Expect the same design with better internals, and you'll be less disappointed or pleasantly surprised on announcement day. :)

I feel like each day... My hopes for a different phone than this one go up and down. I still believe it will be the only taller iPhone, but I hope it turns out to be something else.

One day, I have no hope of this being a prototype (I am sure these parts are a prototype to at least a small extent). The next day, someone makes a good point, to bring my hopes back up. Then it repeats.

September 12th... hurry the hell up please.

Bottom line is, it really doesn't matter if these leaks are really what it will look like or not. Most everyone of us will be buying it :)

I will find it odd, if Tim Cook walks on stage and unveils the iPhone5, and it is indeed this phone being leaked all over the net this Summer  People will say, oh, we've seen this a million times already, no surprise.

Or are these leaks are major hoax cooked up by Apple, and Tim will show something completely different than anything we have seen before ?

    ----------

LOL at iSheep maybe  I will pass on the iPhone4/4S on Viagra, these leaked iPhone5 pictures look like the iPhone4 has a boner. Oh it now has another row of app icons on top, big whip

Bring on the new Nexus already, that is worth getting excited for :)

This will probably be the biggest consumer product launch in history. It's just way to difficult to manufacture TWENTY MILLION devices with not a few of the 30-50 pieces inside leaking.

And unlike computers, these devices are TINY and keep getting smaller which makes them even easier to get out.

It would be next to impossible to keep something of this magnitude 100% secret.

The only way would be to go back to the original iPhone approach and have a 6 month delay between announcement and release. Then they could show a prototype and have the next 6 months to manufacture it.

Omg the iPhone leaks EVERY year. What aren't you people getting?! The parts, casings etc leak every.... single.... year! This is nothing new.

The only iPhone that didn't leak was the original because it didn't have to be mass produced right away.

    Jesus.
