Hi, please excuse my English, as I am not very fluent. Here's my very short story about my recent purchase of my new "older" macbook pro. A couple of days ago, I walked into my university's computer store to look at the Unibody models available on display, it was my 3rd or 4th time interacting with the Unibody macbook & unibody macbook pro. While chatting with the friendly store rep about the new machines and telling him that I am saving for a 17" Unibody, he stops me and asks me how much money do I have saved so far. Then he leaves me for a very bried moment and returns with letter sized 8.5x11 piece of paper with a black & white photo and specifications of an older macbook pro model. He proceeds to tell me that they have only one brand new "older" macbook pro left, MB134LL/A, they had one more unit remaining: 2.5Ghz, 512 VRAM, 2Gb, 250Gb-5400. I look at the price ... my mental jaw, dropped ! This was $800 below its original price ! I asked the rep if the screen was glossy or matte, one reason I wanted the 17" Unibody is that I have the option of have a matte screen as opposed to the 15" Unibody that does not have that option. The rep tells me that the MB134LL/A in stock is a matte screen model. Plus, this model comes with the 512MB video card. I was in another world for a few moments. This is really just another product that will eventually get old and becomes obsolete like all the previous models, however, I have never felt my emotions shift in such a way. I blanked out of the conversation within seconds and just reflected on how one of my wishes of owning a Macbook Pro might just happen way sooner than i expected. I did not buy it.

I went home that day and the whole night, browsing through many websites, from ebay to local computer stores trying to find that model for the same price. Nothing matching that price. Without any exaggeration, I woke up at 4am the next day, which was a friday. I could not go to sleep after waking up at 4 in the morning, I was just brightly awake, I started looking at what accessories to buy so I can protect the casing, the keyboard, the wrist area, the track pad. 4 hours before the university's computer store opened, I showered, got dressed, packed my small PC laptop into its sleeve and left home. I took the bus then metro, an hour and 15 minutes later, I was in front of the computer store. I had arrived one hour and 10 minutes before the opening hour, one of their reps was waiting outside for the rest of them to arrive as they apparently have a morning meeting on Fridays. I sat down, turned on my PC laptop and started surfing the net, looking for more prices that match what I had found at the university's computer store, nothing.
A few hours later, I took the following pictures. It is now 3:51am, I charged my new penryn macbook pro for over 24hrs and I am in the process of calibrating the battery. Sigh... the sigh of tiredness from a long day with lots of joy. Thank you to the rep, thank you apple and certainly thank you macrumors and their members for all the information that I need and/or will eventually need and will find here to make my experience pleasant.

Enjoy your Mac, it's a great model. Buy AppleCare when you get the chance.

And your prose surpasses that of many native English friends.

    He's bought a 15", not a 17". Probably a better deal though.

Good choice. IMO, the 17'' are ugly, way out of proportion, making their design way to blank and too minimalist for my taste, while the 15'' are just perfect. The classic 15'' and the unibody 15'' are easily my favourite machine from Apple.

Hey, that was a great story. I'm happy to hear you're satisfied with your purchase ! You got an awesome price for this machine. Although I prefer the Unibody MBP design, I think you got an excellent MBP with great specs.

Oh and by the way, I'm also from Montréal, so that's cool ! :)

And to increase the cool factor just a bit, remember that in a few years, people are going to look at your machine in LUST, not disgust. Classic Macs always get a few stares. ;)

I saw a girl with a 12" PowerBook sitting in the library. I couldn't help but glance at it once in awhile. The keyboard and entire look of the laptop was particularly awesome.

Guess what? I used to OWN a 12" PB!!!! I stared at one every day for 3 years, and I still couldn't help but look at her laptop.

The best thing is that your machine is just as fast as the new UniBody model. :) You also saved a lot of money, which can go towards buying another new Mac in 3-4 years.

I'm the exact same way, Abstract. I had my PB 12" for juuust about 3 years and then ended up selling it because an Intel chipset was just too much to resist. (Needing to dual boot windows for school, yadayada, many reasons.)

But when I see people sportin' the 12" PB, I can't help but get a few glances of it.

By the way OP, your English is incredible. It's almost inspiring me to get off my butt and start studying my second language of choice much harder. Great choice with the MPB, too!

Scarlet Fever & noaccess your feedback on the first pic is appreciated, 3000 x 1879
, unfortunately i wish they had a 17" for that same price, yet, I am very pleased with the 15".
Willis, thanks for the well wishes, and i am looking forward to many years of usage, i have already started to save for my next one.
MattZani, we have the exact same Penryn machine.
brad.c, thanks for the reminder, i actually paid for apple care, I didn't get my apple care package from the store. So I have to pass by and pick it up from them. I have called them and they've put it aside. Thank you for the support on my English !
drlunanerd, it's indeed the 15" model.
CtrlAltWow, having this machine for that price helped me a lot.
PeterQC, absolutely, the classic mbp is awesome.
yetanotherdave, thanks for the feedback on my English and i am thankful for the purchase.
iNeurox, hey, thanks ... It's very cool to see others from Montréal
peapody, the classic design, has a distinc look and feel to it
Golfer00ksu, congrats on your Unibody !
Abstract, one of them facts that made me shocked at the price is that the internal components match to the unibody specs, to some extent.
Saikou, i appreciate your words as well towards my English, very nice of you, thank you
    airjuggernaut, thanks for your feedback.

I took many pictures, here are 2 of them combined, I am using a Canon Rebel XT with a 17-85mm lens.
