Yes there is! In Cydia there is an app somewhere - cannot for the life of me remember what its called by it's definalty on there somewhere.

Using Cydia I found an app called Logome, which should do what you described, and what the OP is looking for.

However I can't seem to get it to work.

Logome currently does not work on the iPod touch 2nd Gen. As far as I've read on logo me, there is no way to get it to work. But on other devices or firmwares, it might work.
