iPod touch Quicktime video not playing on 1G Ipod Touch after upgrade

I am not getting any video playback through Quicktime, only letters and numbers in an enormous text field. Is there an incompatibility with OS 3.1.1 and the first generation iPod? Could the security patch that was just posted be the culprit? iPod is not jailbroken, and only has app store downloaded apps.

Try restoring your ipod.
