iPod random question - headphone cord length

so I just got a refurb 2G nano, and the included headphones are short. very short. like, I can't even get the nano into my pants pocket when the buds are in my ears. after a bit of snooping, I discovered that Apple makes headphone with a shorter cord that are meant to be used with the remote (so that the total cord length is long enough). I think these shorter buds are what I got. I just compared them to the buds that came with my friend's 2G Shuffle, and they are a good 8 inches shorter.

Question is, is Apple shipping the short buds with all iPods now, or did I get them by accident? If so, would they send me a new pair?

I don't know about different length whites, but I say ditch the whites anyway. Go buy a $30 pair of Sony's.

i own a 2G nano, ipod vid 5.5 and a shuffle. the shuffle cord is a lot shorter than the nano, i'm thinking vid and nano are same but lost the ear phones for vid so using nano for vid and then switching off.
