What do you guys think Apple's victory in this case will have on Android? Do you think the outcome will stifle new products?

Not sure, but I don't think they will discontinue their current products. I think this will force Samsung to work around those patents as to not infringe them in both current and future devices. That is what they did Jelly Bean, didn't they?

Since the Galaxy Tab wasn't found to be infringing, I assume they'll tweak the software and release more Apple-esque tablets, but with newer, non-infringing OS's.

Long story short, Samsung can go back to using the not-able-to-be-patented screen on a square concept.

There won't be any ramifications.

Apple victory? Dude they are still reading the verdict. They haven't even gotten to Samsung's portion yet.

Good attempt to instigate though.
And the jury found Apple did not infringe on Samsung's patents....

Looks like Apple just got a big win on Samsung and Android OS.

Yep. Now it is over and a big win for Apple, although not surprising given all the evidence Judge Koh had suppressed from Samsung's side.

Besides, regardless of the verdict we will see appeal after appeal for the next 5 years. Apple lawyers are likely to make more money than either company would ever win. And by the time this is settled, none of the phones in question will even be around. Hell, most of those discussed in this trial aren't around.

P. S. There was no win against Android or Google. Neither were in play. Just Samsung.

Not surprising at all. Samsung definitely copied Apple, but my question is, who cares?

Surprise. Judge Koh begins diluting the finding of the jury, due to jury errors in the verdict. Looks like the jury may have to go back and do the damages again. Not that it really matters.

Wonder if Judge Koh realizes if this verdict were to stick how many more lawsuits we'll see. "your honor, I bought a Toshiba tv and thought it was a Samsung. Cause they look similar. You know how apple won for patenting a black rectangle with rounded corners? I want my money too."

Not that it makes a big difference, but it was a bit sloppy on the part of the jury.

Makes it look like they were in a big rush to finish and not have to come back after the weekend.

Everyone expected the jury to take at least a week to go over all the evidence.

If phones like the pebbly Samsung GS3 are the result of creativity, then maybe forcing creativity isn't always a good thing.
To be honest, if Samsung came up with a phone that looked like the Lumia 800-900 and sold the same numbers that the Galaxy line did, Apple would have sued them for a design that looked like the ipod nano.
In the end this verdict will mean nothing going forward in terms of Sammy's phones. You just have to look at the GS3 to see that they've already made a change. My guess is that Sammy continues to dominate Android and will dominate Windows Phone 8 with the same hardware. I've got no doubt they come back stronger than ever. Never wake a sleeping giant.

The case is still going on. Seems to be some inconsistencies in the verdict. Apple's attorney's don't think so, but the Judge disagrees...
I really feel cases like these should never be heard from a jury of laymen.

Maybe. But the lack of creativity results in a phone that looks the same year after year. :D

I don't see this as a black mark against Google or Android per se. Copying is what Samsung does best and now it has finally caught up with them. Just another reason why I would never patronize them.
I see. Yet you buy Apple products? Oh, the irony.

I'm with you. Samsung clearly copied Apple and they deserve this. They just copy, like S Voice or Dormant mode, which is a copy of Do Not Disturb in iOS 6.

I don't care about Apple or Samsung, but it was very obvious that Samsung copied a lot from Apple, specially on the first Samsung galaxy.

I hope this makes them stop copying.

Yep, Apple still won. Samsung owes over 1 billion dollars, Apple owes nothing. This didn't surprise me at all. Whether Samsung did it knowingly or not, it's clear that their devices greatly resemble the iPhone. It was obvious Apple wasn't fooling around. They have patents and intend on protecting them.
