Although a gross over simplification, I thought this video was a good, entertaining, viral way to demonstrate the difference between true conservatism/constitutionalism and the increasingly left wing Democrats of today's power structure...

What are your thoughts, both on the video's accuracy and production/political value?

    Also good...

I'll watch the videos when I'm not at work, so I have to reserve my opinion on those. However, Reagan wouldn't be a republican today. He certainly wouldn't be a tea-party republican. He would barely be conservative enought to be a democrat today.

Reagan would likely call the tea party exactly what they are.

Yeah, compatriots. Remember, St. Ronnie launched his 1980 campaign with racist dog-whistle politics.

Will this Reagan messiah complex ever die on the right? He was a terrible president.

That video said absolutely nothing. Where was the "debate"? It was just a bunch of soundbites set to dramatic music.

And Reagan started the massive spending with trying to outspend the USSR.

This is not a thread about Ronald Reagan as a president, his history, his legacy, what you think of him, etc. (certainly we can agree there are enough of those already) This is a thread about this video (produced by a congressman) designed to make a point... your thoughts thereof on the content and political ramifications of the message as it relates to the Tea Party, November elections, etc.

Hate it or love it, please stay on point. Thanks guys.

I'll discuss whatever is relevant to what is in the thread. Don't tell me how or what to post. I am still on topic.

Also, this whole video is nothing but 30 second sound bites. Why the hell would you even expect to get a discussion going off such crap? It's time the sound bite media died and people reconsidered a little thing called context.

And what was the point of the video?

    It said absolutely nothing.

And the point is a debate between St. Ronnie, who was what he was, and a bunch of soundbites? I think a discussion about one half of the debate might be reasonable and on point.

You stated that he showed what was true conservatism. And yet he was the one to start the massive spending which isn't very conservative.

Serious? You want opinions on a political video that uses quotes from both sides out of context?

I think it's effective propaganda. It doesn't really say anything, but the out of context clips give the impression that Reagan is the Savior and that democrats caused all the problems. Gosh darn, if I didn't know better I'd almost think he had been a good president.

Damn. It's just a highly-partisan diatribe made in the editing bay.

I was hoping for Zombie Reagan.

Or, an army of Reagan clones. Created by Dr. Mindbender with DNA extracted from the unearthed remains of Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, Attila the Hun, Philip II of Macedon and his son Alexander the Great, Ivan the Terrible, Vlad the Impaler, Hannibal, Genghis Khan, Grigori Rasputin, and Sgt. Slaughter.

Those of us who lived through that hell know better. Reagan was terrible, and is responsible for starting the GOP on it's long slide into the abyss.

I'm not falling for that one again.

Aren't you the one who claimed the two conservatives gays were involved in an "intelligent" discussion in that other thread?

Now I'm once bitten... twice shy.

I'll leave that link for some other poor SOB.

And it broke their back, did it not???

It proved a "free" country could out-produce a communist one.

Puts me in mind of a quote, authored by that seer Stanley Kubrick.

I think it proved a "free" country could outspend a communist one... by about 30 years.

    Now we're both broke.

    Hurray! We won!!!

"There is nothing government can do as well as the private sector."

Hmm. I would like to see that assertion substantiated.

Reagan is—to me—the greatest example of the power of celebrity and image in affecting the rational memory of someone's actions.

No. They were well on the way to financial ruin before Reagan came along. The Afghan war helped a little too.
