    Un-**********-believable.

It never ceases to amaze me the cruelty of which humans (?) are capable.

Who needs Evil, when we have evil. We are a remarkable species.

Though it is truly heinous what they did. There is no need to indict the entire human race by the crimes of a small group.

    You're right.

I was a little overwhelmed when I saw the video.

Blanket condemnation of all of us is overstated.

Hope they get convicted and their sentence is the maximum that is allowed.

What I'm curious to know is what's with total silence about the other 5 people involved. No charges, no names, no nothing?

He wont last a day in prison.

This story is disgusting. Race aside, how on earth do you just up and decided to go kill a person for the heck of it?

Actually given what he did, he will actually have some rank in prison (sick as it sounds) and will be protected from the others. Depending on his sentence status he might not be around any other inmates at all. 23 hours a day in lock down and then an hour or so in a private yard.

Pretty sick and twisted what he did. The video is pretty darn shocking.

    Four words:

    Cartman's Silly Hate Crime

Don't get fed-up with this, it happens every day. They'll server there time, maybe they can be an example, maybe prison changes there perspective, ... who knows? But just don't wish to anyone what you don't want to happen to yourself. People are People.

I believe they were critiquing your well articulated editorial comment(s). ;)

As for the actual story, this is where the death penalty should be used without a second thought.

    Mississippi murder statues

A charge of capital murder doesn't apply. Plain vanilla murder with a hate crime enhancement will have to suffice. I also don't see how a conspiracy charge is applicable here, the stated intent was not to kill, but to "mess with". The decision to run over the victim rests with the driver, and possibly any passengers. The courts will have to sort that out.

I don't generally agree with your positions ;) - but it's hard not to agree on this one.

I'm opposed to capital punishment, in part, because of the "Oops factor". If a mistake is made, you can't say "oops" after the penalty is applied. But this one leaves little room for doubt.

(While I may disagree with you, I always read your posts, if for no other reason than it gets my blood up :D  )

Sad thing is, I live (suburb) of where this happened. I drove past it just yesterday.

    Very, very sad....

I hope all of you have nothing to do with jurisdiction, given your medieval understanding of justice.

It is my impression that racism is rampant in prison. (No personal experience, so take it for what it's worth.)

Aryan Nation will clutch him to their bosom.

Child molesters are universal pariahs in prison, and if put in general population have a life expectancy measured in seconds. But I'm not sure that racist monsters like this guy will receive the treatment suggested above.

He may get bent over on general principles, but not because he brutally murdered an African American.

Yeah, but woe is him if the others get to him... I suppose you could argue he had it coming, though.

It has nothing to do with a "medieval understanding of justice."

Pardon us barbarians for wanting to see the kid get what he's got coming to him and fully deserves.

I was merely stating what normally happens to people like this in prison. I made no judgment.

So you think "getting raped by black guys" because after all it's "what he's got coming to him and fully deserves" serves the kid's resocialisation (which is the main purpose of imprisonment nowadays)?
