iPod touch Recover cleared files and settings on Ipod Touch?

I recently found a 2G Ipod Touch and I'm trying to find it's owner. Someone I know cleared the ipod of all it's music and settings, so I have no way of knowing who's ipod it is. Is there a way to recover all this information? Or alternatively a way to find who owns the ipod? Thanks
