i have accidentally deleted very important data from my harddrive and am interested if there is some good application that could recover this deleted data.

Data Rescue II from Prosoft Engineering usually does quite a good job. Keep in mind that if you are continuing to use the Mac or the external drive the data was deleted from before you run a recovery app, the less likely it is that you will be able to recover it all since your usage will overwrite parts of the deleted files.
