watching the birth of the Dem WTH Party
Recently moved and over the last couple of months have had to fill out a number of new forms ... medical, dental, lease, loans, etc...
What I noticed, and went back and looked at some older documents I have to confirm, when selecting race, Caucasian used to be at or near the top of the list for choices and now resides at or near the bottom of them.
WTH? Has it become a bad thing to be "white"? Or is this the new "pc" mode? Or am I reading too much into this...

If you're interpreting a value judgement by the order of the list, then yes, you're reading too much into it.

Yes it has. Being white is looked at as wrong by many now.

Yes, definitely reading too much into a form. if it isn't alphabetic, most likely it just displays in whatever order it was saved in the database.

Not from my experience. Only people I've ever heard make this claim are Caucasian males trying to play the sympathy card.
I don't disagree with that last part but there are plenty of examples, especially on college campuses, of people being told to check their privilege and other white guilt type of things.

Probably to stop people picking white who aren't.

Plenty of ways to order the list. You can list alphabetically. You can list popular at the top. You can list popular at the bottom so people don't pick the top one.

None of these things are racist.

Or perhaps Caucasian males are targets now. If "white privilege " is being taught then white males are being vilified.

I view being overly sensitive to the point of paranoia to be wrong.

But maybe I'm being to harsh.

Maybe it's just like skin color ... it's just something some people are born with.

Being aware of one's racial privilege is vastly different from being told your race is wrong or bad.

LOL. White privilege isn't real.

Somewhere
Yes, wealth accumulates faster when you inherit it than when you earn it, and whites were the ones that were able to claim the land when it was free as long as you farmed it. But if you are a poor white today and your family didn't have a bunch of accumulated wealth you are in a worse position than someone from a minority who starts out with the same wealth since many assistance programs are not open to you if you are white.

Are there "many" assistance programs that are not open to whites?

I'd find that quite surprising.

I would think that by now assistance would be based on economic need, not skin color.

College scholarships? I thought he meant government assistance.

College scholarships can often be targeted. I work in our university's division in charge of gifts and know that donors can specify how their donations benefit different groups or area of study.

But even in that case ... in California, at a state college, I highly doubt that any scholarship can be tied to race.

Other states ... other colleges (especially private) ... their mileage may vary.

There have been scholarship programs for natives, but I've never seen anyone whinge about that in my life.
