Repeatedly kicked off file server (killing my machine)

I have a file server (OS9) that I connect to and remain connected to all day every day. Recently it has started causing me problems where it will boot me off for no reason and then this process crashes my finder to the point where it can't be re-launched and I have to hold down the power button to reset my machine. Is there an inactivity time-out going on here? If so, how do I adjust the time-out duration? What could be causing this and how do I fix it?
