My contacts are all synced through my work Outlook account, so as soon as I add that mail account to my phone, all my contacts download...you can do this with a Google email account, as well (but you can also backup via iCloud which I usually do too). Anything else I feel I need to keep, I create a backup of on iCloud. I don't keep messages, because I like starting over from scratch, and feel like it's a good way for me to cleanup space. I then just re-download all my apps and log back into them. I feel like it's a good way to start over...cleaning up apps that I don't use anymore, etc. And, I also feel like it prevents any weird bugs from being brought over from a prior phone.Dont you lose all your history? contacts? messages? whatspp and stuff like that?
At this point, I think I agree. I just think some people like seeing a clean phone and have fun setting up from scratch...maybe changing their set up a little.I haven't set up as new since iPhone 3GS. No need, no ill effects ever. It's simply placebo if you choose to do that.
One of the strengths of iOS is how seamless changing devices is.
