Bill Richardson has withdrawn as nominee for secretary of Commerce
Dang, I always respected him. He was my first choice for president.
The story makes me wonder if this isn't fallout from Blagojevich -- that Blago's supporters aren't beating the drum for other pay-to-play governors to make his transgression seem less onerous, or that Blago's people are promising a cloud over the Obama administration in retaliation.
And your posting beat the NY Times news alert by 10 minutes!
Likewise, I'm a big fan of Bill Richardson (both for President and as Sec. of State over Hillary)
I'm hoping above all that nothing comes of the grand jury investigation. I still think he'll be a big player in national politics after the investigation.
Now the story is breaking in more detail. It seems the investigation involves a $1.48 billion deal for work on a transportation program in 2004/05 and the fact that the company (CDR) and it's CEO contributed at least $110,000 to three political committees form by Bill Richardson. AP Story
Hmmm.. I wonder what skeletons Richardson has in his closet. Politicians don't usually give up a chance at a promotion this easily...
Better now then after Obama starts fixing 8 years of Bush mistakes.
