anybody had that problem before? I have tried a number of different wifi connections including one that worked fine before.

I get error message "Safari can't open the page because it cant find the server."


Not that i have not upgraded to new firmware yet, could that be the reason?

When it happens to me, it's usually because the WiFi got disconnected (I'm standing too far) and it asks me to choose a new WiFi connexion. Otherwise, it might be because that particular website requires you to enter www. before it's name, and I don't think Safari put this prefix automatically if it fails to connect directly to short name the first time...
