Safari crashes

I have Safari 4.0.5 on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. When trying to browse to my bank's site, Safari crashes on the iMac but not the MacBook Pro.

Both machines have pretty much the same software installed. I've uninstalled Safari and used CleanApp to make sure everything was deleted. Then I re-installed Safari...same problem.

Is there any utility that can show me what the problem is? I've run Maintenance as well as Clean My Mac in the hope of repairing this.

I've only been a Mac for about a year and a half. Please advise.

just deleting Safari.app wont uninstall Safari. there are many other system files such as the WebKit framework which form the core.

i suggest downloading Safari 4.0.5 and reinstalling.

I used CleanApp after I uninstalled, which found several leftover files. Then I did a manual search-and-destroy and found more. I rebooted, then re-installed. Same problem, different day.

I do use FF a lot of the time, I just like some of the cool visual features that Safari offers, like Top Sites.

I also use Chrome when I'm searching for something, because you don't have to be accurate in the address bar.

Sounds like there's no clear-cut way to fix this. There seems to be lots of Safari crashes chatter on the net. Oh well...

Try this:
1. Download OnyX (a free maintenance utility).

2. Open OnyX and Click Cancel on these two Alert Panels:
-Cancel the S.M.A.R.T. Box
-Cancel the Startup Volume Box

3. Enter your Password

4. Click on the Cleaning Tab

5. In each tab, within the Cleaning Tab, execute the command. Check all the boxes in each tab. When its finished in that tab, it will ask you to reboot. Say NO. Go on to the next tab and repeat until all tabs, within the Cleaning Tab, are done. THEN REBOOT.

I'm using Safari 4.0.5 with OS 10.5.8 problem-free. I've read that there are different builds of 4.0.5 for Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard, and you have to make sure you're using the correct one.

Try this:
