Safari changing colour of tool bar, text unreadable.

Since updating to MacOS 26 I'm seeing Safari randomly switch from dark to light mode. I have dark mode selected to be always on. The annoying thing I when it goes to light mode, the bookmark titles remain white and are virtually impossible to read.

After doing some testing, this isn't anything to do with light/dark mode at all. Safari is trying to change the tool bar colour based on the currently underlying web page colour. The problem is that the colour for the bookmark text is often too light and making it near impossible to read.

Not sure if this is configurable.

What does Advanced settings in Safari look like? There's an option to "show color in tab bar" on 15.

They have to put an option to drop the Liquid Theme. I like it on the IOS devices but Mac OS should treat it like an overall theme. Translucent/Transparent Safari is TERRIBLE. Very distracting.

I haven't found a setting to fix it.
It's ridiculous… At least I can see Facebook's favicon

That’s a horrific one for me. Can’t see a load pinned folders and faves etc after viewing some sites! Stuff I use fairly often, so it’s a hugely jarring “improvement” right now.

UPDATE: doesn’t behave like this on iPadOS on an M4 Pro. Text and folder icon colours revert to useable, and any dark tinting also reverts when scrolling up and down. I’m assuming they’ll fix this niggle at some point.

Fixed in beta 2 - font colouring of favourites bar correctly tinted to remain visible on all backdrop colours!

Having dug further, you’re right. It’s better than it was, but still not quite right… amusingly, on iPadOS 26 I think it’s slightly worse than beta 1!

I just cannot understand the reasoning behind this whole tab changing color to fit the underlying web page. WHY? Are they trying to induce seizures in their user base? It serves no purpose whatsoever.
