Ok so we have three iPhone users in our house(2 iPhone 12s and an XR) and mine is the only one that when I launch safari it opens a new blank tab and the others open using the last tab used. Is there a way I can change this to make mine open like that? All are on iOS 16

I'm not sure I understand what's happening here.

When I close Safari with tabs open, the same tabs are there when I launch Safari again.

If I close all tabs then close Safari, I get a blank page when I re-launch it.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

No cos up until just recently mine opened on the last tab I used like my hubbies and daughters iPhones still do but mine changed by itself now opening all these blank tabs I have to keep closing, it’s just so annoying.

Settings > Safari > Close Tabs > Manually

That should stop open tabs closing.

Huh… I thought there was a setting there for deciding what to do when you open the browser, but nope. Nvm

Odd. Usually Safari doesn't shut down as such it just sleeps so when you press on the icon it wakes up where you left it.
If you use the swipe up from the corner feature, then you can close down your sleeping apps and if you do that then you shut down Safari and it should start with a blank page- or favourites.
The only thing I can think of is you have a Mac which starts on a blank page and you have the 'share across devices' setting enabled so it's picking that up. Otherwise I have no idea I'm afraid.

Some people like to close their apps completely and keep the multitasking screen clean. They shouldn’t be asked to change their behavior because Apple or someone else says so. You haven’t made such a claim yet, but want that to be clear. Not every user uses iOS the same way.

For me, apps like Facebook will immediately be force quit because I don’t want their background services running. Plus I just don’t open it often so I don’t want it in my multitasking view.

Safari should totally have the option to open the last tab you had open or a blank page or your favorites or a custom url. Forcing behavior on people like this can be frustrating for the end user.

Chrome opens a new tab for me all the time too. Google has added a “go to recent tab” option at the top of that view that lets me quickly get back to where I was BUT I’d prob prefer it just go to that tab, not stop me and confirm first.
