Just last year, I paid $100 for a 256 GB 850 EVO.

The 860 has better performance than the 850, and a 1TB 860 costs 1/3rd the price of a 1TB 850 ? Doesn't compute. Does anyone know ?

860 isn't better than 850, they are cheaper made because TLC NAND not MLC

Prices on SSDs have been dropping like crazy for awhile. Even NVME prices have gone down by a lot under the 1tb mark. You should check Slickdeals.
