Samsung Electronics top executives and about 200 chiefs of overseas branches meet on Dec. 17-18 to discuss strategy in the face of the global recession and an intensifying standoff with rival Apple.

The meeting comes after Samsung decided to hike the price of application processor chips used by Apple and right after a U.S. court rules whether or not Samsung should pay Apple more than US$1.05 billion in damages for infringing Apple's design patents

The meeting takes place in Suwon and Giheung, Gyeonggi Province.

In previous years, the annual global strategy meeting often set business goals for the following year. But this year's meeting will most likely set quite new guidelines for the tech giant's worldwide sales network.

Samsung recently fired the vice president in charge of matters relating to Apple and hiked the prices of key chips used in iPhones and iPads in response to pressure from Apple to lower them.

Emerging from a meeting with CEOs of Samsung subsidiaries Wednesday, Shin Jong-kyun, the head of Samsung's mobile communications business said, "We no longer have any intention of negotiating with Apple about patent issues".

Samsung has denied they're raising chip prices for Apple in a statement.
