I just needed to print something for the first time since I upgraded OS I getting error messages Apple can't open its unable to check for malicious software.
Printer is M2880FW

Had trouble with Lexmark laser. Had to go in and remove and then add back in Settings for printers & scanners. No issue with a canon unit that I rely on for scanning and color photos.

How is you printer connected, and does it have a media reader slot for SD cards and such? It’s possible it’s trying to open the media port instead. That’s what mine does.

Mine does this too sometimes when the printer goes into sleep mode and I try to print. Instead of waking I get an error.

solution for me is to fully power down the printer and then turn it back on after a minute or so. Occasionally I have to reboot my computer while the printer is powered down.

For this reason, I now leave my printer powered off until Ineed to print.

This just started with Catalina
No I don’t have a sd reader.

There have been a lot of issues with drivers that are 32 bit not working with Catalina, which only supports 64 bit software. Older printers seem to be especially vulnerable, as many OEM’s have stopped software support for them.

Samsung printers especially seem to be in a unique position. HP bought Samsung’s printer division a few years ago and is now on the hook for driver support.

Essentially it looks like HP has not upgraded Samsung’s older drivers.

You can see other Samsung printer owners complaining about their drivers failing after they upgraded in this HP support forum thread:

I have an issue printing to my Samsung printers. Nothing but garble gook comes out on many pages. I have to cancel the print job on the printer before it kills a tree. Issue started on my old mac after I upgraded to Catalina and continues on my new fresh install 16" Macbook Pro.

Had the same problem. The Samsung M- 2835. After the update, the printer was useless. I felt it was such a waste that the printer was now useless. It's not that old either and still works just fine.

I was looking for a new printer on B&H and realized the Xerox had the exact same printer but with their own badge- the B-210. Looking at the Xerox website, it seems like they started selling it first half of 2019.

The off chance, I downloaded the driver from the Xerox site and installed it. Running the install, it found my printer as an AirPrint device. I added it and ran a test print and it worked. Seems to be good so far.

Again, if you have the Samsung M-2835, look for the driver for a Xerox B210.

Good luck to you.

Awesome
I don’t have mine anymore to try it.
still haven’t bought a new one yet.
thx for the tip to bad I don’t have it.

Samsung released new 64-bit drivers for their printers recently, but it still needs manual fixing with several 'sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ...' commands to make it work.

I was warned several OSs back (by a 'Genius') that Samsung printers were often problematic, and that they weren't great at keeping their drivers (or the ones they provide Apple) recent. Lots of otherwise capable Samsung printers out there, but not working on Mac.
Took that onboard - I currently run an 'old' HP Laserjet P1102w and a Epson ET-2750 without issue on Catalina.

(A sidebar: It's my experience in general that Samsung is very slow at keeping any of their devices updated with software / drivers. And once the warranty is done, well, good luck. But I digress....)

Precisely correct. The error reported are related to installers that are not notarized.

Awesome! I had no idea that Xerox sells the same model as Samsung with another name. We have a M-2835 at the office and my boss is the only one who uses macOS, the printer still working just fine on Windows and he was kinda upset with this.

Just sent this driver to him. Hope it works.

Best regards,

Lucas.
