I left using an iphone a few years ago as I was frustrated with the limitation of screens (now addressed somewhat with widgets) and limitations of audio quality (AAC vs every other codec).

Today, I am consider upgrading my Samsung S10+ and perhaps returning to iPhone. Anyone here gone from Samsung to iPhone have any thoughts or visa versa?

To be honest this is more about taking advantage of the eco system than other features as I use calendar quite and more for pro purpose and school. I don't use or own the watch as I am unsure it has any value for me at this time other than reminding me I am old.

I've recently moved from a Note 20 Ultra 5G (S21 Ultra 5G before that too) to my iPhone 13 Pro Max and haven't regretted it at all and I'm an Android nut!

Always preferred Android over iPhones. still have a Pixel 4XL...

But the iPhone 13 Pro Max is a superb phone and it does everything easily, with no faff and it all works superbly also...

Plus, the key thing with iPhones is that they retain their values whereas Androids, more so the flagship phones, lose their values quite quickly... Worth bearing in mind if you swap gadgets regularly etc...

My wife's currently got a Poco F3, but she's just received an S22 from her work this morning (we thought it'd be next week) and it's a superb phone; really well built and great 'hand feel'. But the iPhone still stands above it, IMO

It's down to what you need & want; everything I have is Apple; but as said always preferred Android handsets. Loved how easy they are to customise etc; but iOS is so much better now, much easier to use and less hassle also.

If you use the Apple eco system a lot, it makes a lot of sense going back to the iPhone though!

I thought I'd regret the move but haven't and really glad I made the move back to the iPhone, but I suppose I'm lucky in a sense that I've still got a superb Android handset to use also; the camera on the Pixel 4XL is still one of the best made, IMO and it holds its own very well against the iPhone...

Thanks much for the reply. I was reasonably happy with the photos as well from the Samsung s10+ and I gather that the iphone 13 pro Max would be on par with that older model Samsung. I admit I have enjoyed the 8+ and 10+ Samsung phones.

The camera on the 13 Pro Max is better than the S10/Note 10 range. It's as good as the S21 Ultra's camera IMO

It's very capable indeed; it just doesn't have that massive zoom range

There’s no guarantee you’ll like the iPhone screen. Only way to find out is buy one and test it out yourself. Maybe you’ll get lucky. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, return it within 14 days - no questions asked.

Both are very good phones and cant go wrong either way . You have to decide if you want to get into apple ecosystem. But the S22 ultra has the new Qualcomm X65 modem which suppoose to very good in low signal areas

You have to ask yourself why are you even thinking of getting the iPhone. If you don't use a mac nor have any interest in Apple Watch, then the "ecosystem" is not a benefit for you. Go with the S22+, or the regular S22 if you prefer smaller phone.

The S10+ will still get Android 12, mind you.

Thanks all for your time and responses. In my case - Mac Mini M1 and iPad Pro (2020?) and somewhat retired 2015 MBP along with airpods make up my Apple set up. No watch. (I have non-Apple items as well).

As many have stated: it’s more about Android versus iOS than about the physical phones. Both flagship phones are excellent!

The biggest benefit of the 13 Pro Max is the battery life. It is the new benchmark. Has the smallest battery in its size class at just 4352mAh.

That's one thing that's done nothing but impress me since moving back to the 13 Pro Max; the battery life is absolutely superb whereas both my previous Note 20 Ultra & S21 Ultra would be running low, every day, after normal usage...

The 13 Pro Max is a powerhouse

I'm in a similar boat to you, OP. My wife and I will be upgrading our tired Pixel 3aXLs in March, and I'm torn between iPhone 13 Pro/Max (though I really like the size of the 13 Mini), S22+, and Pixel 6 Pro. Like you, I use iPadOS, so the switch back to iPhone (I had a 3GS but have used Android phones since) would be pretty painless for me. It's not an easy choice, is it?! They all have compelling features. I look forward to seeing your decision, and the reasons behind it. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a S8+ that still works perfect but aesthetically is ver very smashed. What I like of Android is that I can install an App developed by myself for home stuff but as I know, I can't with iOS without JB (I don't want to JB). My idea is keep the S8+ till the iPhone 14 release and then see what is better for me keeping in mind that I work with Mac and iPad. If I'l find a solution for my own App (and Apple change from Lightining to USB-C as with the iPad Pro/Air) I will switch to iOS, if not, I'm prety sure i'll don't.

Well i say Samsung has some nice phones but you just can’t beat the Apple ecosystem the iPhone 13 pro max is a beast of a phone I have played with it and it is nice but the size is to big for me I Recently upgraded to a iPhone 12 mini myself I know the phone is nearly 2 years old but I got a great deal on it and the size works for me so nice to have a oled display again over all it is up to you what you want as for me Apple works good for me?

I’ve had the 13 pro max since launch and just bought the s22 ultra. I decided to test the reception for myself in a very weak area for Verizon. Testing each phone individually on a flat surface I can say that the iPhone is about even with the s22 ultra on reception. Both devices were reporting less then -130 dbm on band 13. I tried multiple time to call my voicemail on the s22, it would not connect. I did get it to connect twice on the iPhone. Data speeds maybe just slightly better on the s22 when you have a good signal due to the newer generation modem the x65. I do think that the iPhone has a better antenna then the s22. It doesn’t matter how many features you have on a new modem vs old if the antenna gain isn’t good. For reception you need good antennas and amplifiers. The modem can only do so much to compensate.

I am going to be biased and say iPhone just because of iOS. One of Androids strengths is also its weakness and that’s the interface. It’s not intuitive and it’s a struggle to navigate and access what you need. Sure, it’s customizable. Since iOS 14, the UI itself is on that path with widgets. I am finding the best way to find and launch apps is using search. That said, I am deep in the ecosystem: Apple Watch S3, 2017 iPad Pro, iPhone X, M1 MBP, Beats headphones, iCloud 200 GBs.

So, if you like consistency and integration, nothing beats Apple right now.

Except for a few minor upgrades. Is this in essence the refreshed remarketed Note 20 Ultra?

About right IMO

That's the same with the Pixel 6 Pro; it wasn't really an upgrade from the Pixel 4XL; it just had 5G and a few other more modern additions...

The cameras are good; but they don't trounce the 4 XL and in some cases; they're not as good at all!

The S22, like you said; is a rehashed 'update' on the Note 20 Ultra which was a superb phone...

But Samsung know a lot of folk want the absolute latest gadget, every year; so they'll pump them out, just like Apple et al do themselves

I just returned s22 ultra exynos as the battery life was dire it was laggy. Reception was sub par and software not great. Have gone for 13 pro which is buttery smooth.
Same experience, returned the S22 Ultra after only two days. Underpowered and lousy battery life. Very disappointed. Have been using the Huawei P30 Pro the last 3 years, and will wait for iPhone 14 Pro to be my next phone. Have used iPhones for 10 years before I went Huawei.
