If apps is a big deal that's really only one tablet that's worth it.. Ipad is king

Yeah exactly. I've seen plenty of reviews praising the S7/S7+ hardware, but you can't escape from how brutally bad developer support is for tablet devices on Android. No matter how great the hardware is, the software just doesn't exist to take advantage of it. Now Google has thrown in the towel with their own Android tablet hardware, I just don't ever see the picture improving.

Samsung is kind of going at this half-heartedly too given they only do quarterly software updates for their tablets from day one. They are desperate to compete with iPad, but the critical aspects of the tablet experience that matter... well they have no control over it whatsoever really.

Maybe I'm just used to mostly the same apps, with the expection of several apps only on one platform. But I just don't have an issue with app quality vs on the iPad.

Hmmm, I don't know how you couldn't on an android tablet. Check twitter, Yahoo fantasy sports, facebook, Microsoft Team, etc. Most of those I mentioned won't even work in landscape unless you use goodlock. Once they do it's just a stretched out version.

Twitter is my most used app and reddit.

Reddit is not useable in landscape for some reason.

twitter even on the fold 2 isn’t very good compared to the iPad app.

some apps are fine like sport apps though.

i use my tab s7 plus as purely media device as the quality looks amazing...but i know most won’t use such an expensive device.

Yea, Twitter is not on tablet mode. Doesn't have the menu bar on the side and the trending. That doesn't seem to bother me though. I can understand apps that don't do landscape, or do it well. But I haven't come across that issue with any apps I use yet.

I use my tab s7 plus in dex mode so the apps is not a big deal. It’s only really when you use it in normal mode but the following work fine for me

espn
onefootball
fotmob
spotify
taptalk

which are my main apps really. Only twitter really That’s an issue as reddit works fine on dex.

No 4:3 aspect ratio = no thanks.
Must agree. Tried the tablet this week and couldn't hold it comfortably in any angle. I wanted to try it to maybe upgrade from my iPad 7th gen, to a better OLED display primarily, but the wide format made it imposible for me to use it.

First proper offer on the Tab S7+ in the UK, £120 off for Prime Day. Trying my best to resist and I'm sure Black Friday will at least match that again at various places.

The build quality is really amazing. Its impressive how good Samsung has gotten at hardware since the days of the plastic Galaxy phones with the little popoff back pieces.

Yeah the size is going to take some getting used to but its not unwieldy or anything, its just a little uncomfortable for couch use.

Side note, Ive never messed with Goodlock much before now but it has helped a ton at getting androids unoptimized android apps to play well with the tab in landscape.

I'm surprised at how much I like mine. Maybe because of the "internal" S-Pen storage nook? Oddly enough, I was ripping on 3rd-party cover manufacturers for including exactly that, but the way it is implemented on those was not something I wanted (extra plastic below the screen to make a space for the S-Pen to be stored) in comparison to the way the Samsung cover is designed.

I got a 3rd-party cover that doesn't have that, requiring that the S-Pen be stored on the back of the device and subject to loss, it's sitting on the other end of the sofa even though it provides more protection for the sides of the device than the Samsung cover.

Your feedback is being great.

I am thinking of buying a new tablet. I currently have a 9.7-inch iPad Pro which I bought back in 2016. It is fine, but the screen is cracked and the battery is no longer what it used to be. My tablet will be used mainly for reading PDFs (which are very difficult to read in my Kindle and in smartphones) and to watch media, but also to navigate on the Internet and other casual uses. It is not supposed to be a laptop replacement.

Options here in Brazil are limited. The iPad is currently very expensive. The cheapest 10.2-inch iPad (32 GB, Wi-Fi) is selling for USD 740, and the 11-inch iPad Pro begins at USD 1,600, and the 12.9-inch model, at USD 2,000 (128 GB, Wi-Fi). So, I am not buying an iPad.

Samsung tablets are much more affordable and worth it. The 11-inch Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently selling for USD 850 (the 256 GB LTE model), and last year's S6 (128 GB, LTE), for USD 700. They seem like a much better deal. The S7+ is not yet for sale, and is supposed to arrive in mid-November, at some hefty USD 1,600, before being heavily discounted.

I am thinking of buying the regular S7 (not the S7+, which is not even for sale yet). However, as it uses an LCD panel, I am worried that it may have an inferior display compared to the one in the S6, which carries an AMOLED panel. I looked at the S6 and the S7 side-by-side today. The display in the S7 looked comparable to the S6 in terms of quality. Blacks looked very good in both, and, to my surprise, I did not notice much difference. Yellow was much more vivid (and even saturated) in the AMOLED display of the S6. Red seemed to be more accurate in the S7, as they seemed yellowish (i.e., orange) in the S6. White was warmer on the S7.

I would like to get your impressions on the S7 display, and how it compares to the display on the S6. For these prices, would it be worth to get the S6 or the S7? Also, is the display on the S7+ really so superior to anything else?

Thanks.

You might double check this. At least in the US the LTE version is only in the 128 GB capacity.
Yes, I just checked. This is a print screen from the Brazilian Samsung website. The only model of the Galaxy Tab S7 sold here has 256 GB storage and LTE. It sounds crazy that this model is sold for USD 850 and the 11-inch iPad Pro with 256 GB and LTE is being sold for USD 2,270 (and does not even come with the pen!).

I bought the Tab S7 and it arrived yesterday. I have some first impressions, especially compared to my 9.7-inch iPad Pro:

  • The tablet is fast; despite not having the same speed as the latest iPads, it is good enough for most uses.
  • The screen ratio (16:10) is great for watching videos, as it allows to use nearly all the screen. In the iPad, the video looks either smaller or has its sides cut.
  • Due to the ratio, the 11-inch display has the same width of the 9.7-inch screen on the iPad. When reading PDFs or browsing the web, fonts have the same size due to the same width (which is a letdown). However, it is possible to see more content vertically, which is a plus.
  • The screen is very reflective, it looks like a mirror sometimes, especially when the lights are on and I am looking at dark colors. The iPad is much less reflective. This seems to be the biggest disadvantage for me, and it is really annoying (I am surprised that so few reviews even mention this issue).
  • The color reproduction is very good. However, I have the impression that colors on the iPad look more vivid than on the S7. Black levels could be better, but this should be expected of an LCD screen.
  • The pen is good, and seems to be as accurate as the Apple Pencil. It comes for free, which is a plus.
  • Software is a mixed bag. It is good for browsing the web, checking e-mails, reading PDFs, Kindle, Netflix, You Tube, using Microsoft Office. I am impressed at how the library for Android tablets evolved well, as I would expect that virtually nothing would be available. It should be as good as the iPad for these tasks. However, if you need something more specific, especially to work with, such as photo editing, for instance, then the iPad should have far more options.

I see a few places in the UK have reduced the S7+ to £719 from £800 in their Black Friday deals. Can get it from Very at that price interest free for 12 months with £14 Quidco cashback. Still really tempted by this.

Although the import with 256gb & 8gb ram is only £80 more.

The offer for the extra £50 ends at 1.59pm today, so I bought one. Along with £20 vouchers I already had, £649 for something I've had my eye on for a while is a really good price. Almost makes me wonder if I should return my iPhone and get a Note 20 Ultra to compliment it. lol

Got it this morning, set it up and had a bit of a play with it. Fantastic device and a great alternative to the iPad. For my use, I don't need all the dedicated apps available on the iPad. So for me it's a much better buy at a much better price. Loving using the edge panel & good lock on a tablet.

Hopefully you got it through Microsoft. Because the deals they were offering yesterday were insane. I saw it too late or I would’ve bought one.

I went from a regular iPad to an iPad Pro with Pro Motion and I honestly couldn't tell the difference with refresh rate. Although never had them side by side.

But I can tell how fast & fluid this S7+ is, especially combining it with animations set to 0.5. Putting it down and picking my iPhone up is very noticeable. It's just such a nice device to use.

I was half expecting apps to be really poor because of the non dedicated app store and comments from people online. Far from it and even Instagram is better on this than the iPad with it's poor 2x feature to scale it.

If Samsung carry on like this, I've no need for a far more expensive iPad. I'd rather put that saving to a laptop with a full OS.

I had the same experience a couple of years ago when Apple was touting Pro Motion. I went to Best Buy a US retailer and had both a regular iPad and an iPad Pro side by side. I scrolled text up and down and both were smooth. The only slight difference I could tell in favor of the iPad Pro with PM was that it did not blur the text as much as the regular 6th gen iPad. But there was still some blurring on the iPad Pro with PM.

Not worth the extra money tbh.
