    Really Rick? Really?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/07/rick-santorum-barack-obama_n_1191265.html?ref=politics

Well who are YOU Rick Santorum to tell people who they can and cannot marry? I mean, the hubris of this presidential candidate to think he knows what's best. Rise up indeed. What a hypocrite. Of the highest magnitude.

And as far as college and his auto mechanic reference, I guess he doesn't realize that cars are getting more and more complicated everyday. The days of working out in your driveway fixing a car are over. You need lots more training...ie schooling now. But I guess Santorum would rather people be kept dumb and poor in order to control them easier.

Oh God, someone who wants to educate our population. Run! Hide! They might start asking questions!

Tell me when the US starts subsidizing study costs, then talk to the Commonwealth Countries about accessible Tertiary Study.

Pretty sure you have to have some education to be an auto mechanic. I don't want somebody who doesn't know a spark plug from their ass touching my car

I feel obligated to disagree with Santorum. So boo!

However, not everybody should go to college, what would be the point of that? Why should everybody even want to? There should be no shame in not staying in education if you don't want to.

My objection is when people are unable to attend college due to a factor that isn't about ability (ie they can't afford it). Here university costs money, but every UK citizen is automatically entitled to a loan/grant on their first degree that covers fees and basic maintanence. I would not have been able to afford tuition and living at a US college on par with the one I attended here, unless I'd been fortunate with scholarships. Sad really!

One is for screwing and one is not.

Just ask Rick and he'll tell you that.

Rick Santorum. Man of the people.

Alma mater : Pennsylvania State University (BA)
    University of Pittsburgh (MBA)
    Dickinson School of Law (JD)

As far as using children for politics ?

On July 8, 2005, a Pennsylvania state hearing officer ruled that the Penn Hills School District had not filed objections to Santorum's residency in a timely manner and dismissed the complaint. Santorum hailed the ruling, saying "No one's children—and especially not small, school-age children—should be used as pawns in the 'politics of personal destruction.

80% of people in Shanghai go to University and 70% do on the rest of the Chinese east coast. Why can't the US (or Europe) get close to that?

Or is it only the Asians who can educate their citizens these days?

Because being educated means you are a nerd or a geek (Stereotype) in western societies so it is unimportant to politicians.

Stupidity is worshiped in Western Society.

We managed to be the greatest nations on earth for two centuries. You don't do that by worshipping the stupid.

Not everyone has a desire to go to college or the need to go to one.

No, you get there by having the strongest and most abusive army.

You need to have a look back at Americana and your pop culture. It is LITTERED with religious BS and anti-education propaganda.

Are you treating the UK and US as some kind of Anglo-Saxon gestalt empire?

Well, actually, it seems to be the historical rule that you do.

You are aware that this fantasy that every kid should go to a traditional four year college or university is part of the higher education problem that the US is currently facing?

Look at this Brookings article from a year and half ago:

    Higher Education and the Economy

The "we're better than everyone else" attitude was never justifiable, and it was never true anyway. Try learning a bit of history and take a look at how we (the US) have treated others including our own citizens.

I always hated that. California isn't as bad in this regard as some parts of the US, but it seems like it's worsened over the past decade.

Indeed. The idea that the benighted native populations should be grateful to be decimated, brutalised, robbed and exploited by the British rather than by anyone less decent is strangely and enduringly ingrained in the minds of many British people to this day. A similar vanity seems to obtain in the USA.

Interesting use of the transitive verb there.

I would have chosen something stronger, e.g. infect. ;)

I think this is Santorum's way of saying he is basically going to gut federal aid programs for prospective college students if he became president.

I chose my words with great care. And it is not being used transitively.
