New French President Nicholas Sarkozy has named his cabinet, which includes leading French Human Rights campaigner Bernard Kouchner, a Socialist, as Foreign Minister. Kouchner, who is best known as a founder of Doctors to the poor aid organisation Medecins Sans Frontiers, was one of the few voices in France supporting the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

    M. Sarkozy has also trimmed down the number of ministers to show he is serious in cutting government waste.

and he started his political career as a member of the french communist party ;)

i'm quite surprised Sarkozy goes for a "all talent" cabinet ... didn't expect that

i hope his attitude of humanitarian intervention helps to get something done about Darfur

after all he gets a lot of kudos from me for founding MSF and his bringing forward international humanitarian effort

I think people keep forgetting that our idea of a conservative is completely different than their idea of a conservative.

No hes falls under our idea of a conservative. He wants to liberalize the economy, lessen taxes, and improve global trade. He also is a law and order type and takes a harsh stance on immigrants. Hes OUR type of conservative and thats why its a shock to many French to even see him in Politics.

I would call him France's Margaret Thatcher.

Whoa! The poor French! They're really in for a rough ride if that's the case.
