you left out "the best" bit:

    Un-f***ing believable.

What a curse to be born a woman in a culture which regards women like that.

You can only wonder what the Saudi king really thought of HRM when he visited her recently…

    That's f**king disgusting!

I know there's a total culture clash between the West and Arabic countries but still!

It's unbelievable this is still going on in the 21st century.

I thought the Saudis were supposed to be the good guys in the Middle East. Sorry I forgot, that's only when it comes to oil and defence contracts.

Oh hey is it "post barely related and gratuitous picture" time? Cool!

Iscariot, I know Dick Cheney is someone everyone loves to hate around here but what does posting that picture have to do with the current issue in the thread? Does it mean that Cheney because he has met those people that he actually agrees and approves with how they treat women? I'm sure if you dug a little you could find someone from every administration dating back to LBJ in a picture like that.

I don't know why we continue to be allied with Saudi Arabia. Saudi nationals attacked us on 9/11. After my brother spent a year there and told me about that place, I wanted to nuke it myself. It's a disgusting country.

This doesn't surprise me. Most of that part of the world is pretty ****ed up as it is. Hopefully the sand will swallow them up at some point and time in history.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the people of the Middle East to embrace the concept of separating their religion from their government. Ain't happening.

i know, but 'we' were in a similar situation not too long ago and (mostly) did it, eventually it will happen there too. I might not be around by then, though (especially if I hold my breath).

I thought it was commonly understood that the West and especially the U.S. was evil for trying to push our ideals on other cultures.

I'm certain that many people from their country find the way we parade our women about in the movies and TV to be just as "disgusting" and "sickening" as we find this to be.

Perhaps we should just mind our own business.

Perhaps that would be OK if our governments weren't so vocal about raising the issues of human rights in our dealings with other countries that aren't sitting on top of 20% of the world's oil reserves.

That's like saying "They probably think we're disgusting for being friends with black people. If they want slaves, we shouldn't judge." As much as I see your point about respecting differences in culture, I can't help but find this abhorrent, and unbelievably old fashioned for the 21st century.

The difference between us "parading our women about in the movies" is that the majority of women are choosing to parade themselves, and that they won't be jailed or tortured for doing so.

That's really fecked up. She gets in trouble for being in an unrelated man's car, while 7 unrelated men rape her.

On top of that, she appeals, gets her lashings doubled, and then her lawyer gets f'd over too.

I hope they believe in karma because that sure as hell isn't justice.

You can't really have it both ways. Either we respect their culture and stand back and do nothing, or we meddle with their culture.

I'm sure they believe that our women are "victims" of our infidel society. The comparison is valid.
