This is good news. No one should have money taken out of their paycheck and given to an origination that they don't want to be part of.

The flushing sound you hear is the last of the labor movement in the USA.

One more ruling to weaken unions.

Good thing we don't need them anymore, right? Wages are rising, safety standards are being enforced, everything is going great.

    Right?

    Right?

Indeed, the middle class will soon be gone. There will be the elites, and an underclass.

    ----------

Good wages and good working environments are communism.

This ruling has exposed the fact that America is a corporate dictatorship.

Well, I would have thought that home care workers, working long hours in a difficult, demanding, poorly paid, insecure, low status occupation where the labour force are, by definition, going to have large numbers of female workers, (many part-time), enjoying little by way of legal protection or guaranteed rights, is exactly the sort of work environment where protection and collective action negotiation by a labour union is most needed…...

But that might cut into the executives bottom line bonus checks.....

    Why do you hate America?

Give it a couple of years and all the workers who opted out will be angry they dont have union representation when they're being made redundant.

The first sentence makes sense to me, deplorably true though it is, alas.

The second? Is that a question, a rhetorical question, or some sort of statement?

In any case, I don't 'hate' what you describe as 'America" (by which I assume you mean the US); however, I do think that since the 1980s, it has embarked upon a most unfortunate political, social, economic and ideological trajectory which has done enormous damage both to itself and to the wider world.

    The second sentence was Sarcasm

You guys are making it sound like SCOTUS just ruled to abolish unions. This just allows those who do not want to be in the union to stop them from taking the dues out of their paychecks. Why should you have to pay for something you don't want to be a part of??

If these unions are so *awesome* then people will want to be a part of them right?

    Ah. I see…….my myopia, then.

Well, let us just say that not many in western Europe would view the US as any sort of role model and haven't done so for the best part of thirty years. The tragedy is, that there was a time when the US was viewed as a sort of ideal in many parts of the globe, including some of the democracies of western Europe..and, as a consequence, enjoyed extraordinary influence and prestige.

And this ruling is also the end of the middle class in America.

Workers will no longer have any protection

Expect labor laws to be repealed in the coming decade.

    ----------

Yes, those days are completely over.

America is reverting to how it was back into the 1900s, workers rights will soon be repealed, and you will see the downfall.

America is already a second world country slipping into the third world

    ----------

    You clearly dont realize.

Without any unions, because corporations will use progranada to make nearly all the workers to stop paying dues.

    Unions go away forever
    Labor laws are repealed
    Labor standards will be repealed

America becomes a third world country.

    ----------

By the time that happens, America will rule Unions to be completely illegal, just you watch and see.

Yes, the ONE union collective that made it into the top 20 contribution bracket for POTUS campaigns is now gone. That leaves only corporations running the show in terms of contributions.

The groundwork for finalizing the transition to full on Corportacracy is now complete.

The administration had already done more, prior to this ruling, to wipe out the middle class than any other administration in the country's history.

Santa Claus is still giving out O phones and promoting the taker lifestyle.

Yes, 1984 is coming to America.

It will be a full on Corportacracy.

    Just wait.

    Labor laws
    Child Labor laws
    Privacy
    Small Business

Will all be gone within the next 10 years.

It isn't just that, though. This impacts more than just partisan politics.

lol, are you seriously spouting the Obamaphone BS?

The LifeLine program, for free or reduced phones, was signed into law by Reagan - yes, that Reagan, and expanded from landlines to cell phones under the Bush administration.

The whole idea of Obama giving out free cell phones is the biggest lie from the right wing since the birther BS.

Not at all. The scope of the ruling is hardly scorched earth and can't be made applicable to all situations.

That's something you'll notice about the conservative wing of the court; they prefer to deal very closely with the issue of the case, and make very narrow, targeted rulings, rather than engaging in judicial activism, which could have very easily been the case. They could have gutted labor in one stroke.

And it's more complicated than someone just objecting to union politics and dues. These workers had a different situation going.

We've been nibbling at democratic rights in the workplace since the 60's. It's merely a tactic to take a chunk at a time, and a widely acknowledged one at that. It's never one specific ruling that does it, but this significantly reduces the already anemic funding that unions can scrape together these days.

With all of these rulings leading to the lowest union participation rates since the labor movement formed we've just seen the straw that over the next decade has broken the camels back.

    It's not just the Democrats.

It is the middle and working class in America, they will be gone within 15 years after this ruling.
