Just watched this guy's review on his experience with the iPhone 8 (start 23 seconds in).

The edges have a lot of scratches... that came just from setting down the phone? iPhone X is probably using the same glass, sounds bad to go naked. Am getting a case for my X after seeing this.

Yikes already ordered Apple leather case, glad I did

Not surprised at all. The front of the phone would be the same if you plopped the phone down screen first for a month.

He appears to be wearing a wedding band. Could the scratches have been caused by the ring. Just a thought...

Meh, seems to be the same as my current jet black. After a year of caseless use, there are micro scratches if you really look for them, but nothing that jumps out in normal light.

I’m more than okay with that. The feel and beauty of using it caseless is worth it to me.

I've always used a case and always will. Apple leather case just makes the phone feel better in my hand. To each his own.

Well. I’m ordering a case. That’s for sure. Wasn’t sure I was going to. But I’ll order one on Wednesday with prime for Friday delivery.

ehh, nothing new here. can always get rear tempered glass if your goal is to keep the phone in tact without using a case

I would just like to point out that the back of my Note 8 looked like this after a month as well so this is not something specific to Apple but all glass backed phones

not using a case this time around. i don’t have a case on my 7+ and it’s fine.

This made me look into the hardness of Type III anodizing and Apple's Gorilla Glass.

They're about the same hardness (about a 6) so where the glass scratched the aluminum oxide would have too.

Guess there's a lot of stuff out there that can cause microabrasions, even in your pockets.
