Since my upgrade to High Sierra, every time my TB MBP wakes up once the monitor goes black, the screen is almost at the lowest level of brightness and I have to manually re brighten the screen. I have all options to not dim the screen set in system prefs. Any ideas? TIA!

That seems to have fixed the issue! Thanks so much for the suggestion!

To resurrect, this was fixed a few releases ago... was definitely a software thing.
