Screen Sharing

My mother is across the country trying to learn how to use a computer.
I've been trying to help over the phone but so far haven't made much progress.

I've heard that Leopard can screen share and I thought this would be a great way to show her the VERY basics of computers (like email)

what is the easiest way to set this up? I'm running Mac OSX Leopard and she's on a Microsoft Vista computer.

If possible i'd like to do it without having to get on a plane. What is required on her end?

Or you could set up a VNC client to access the computer remotely.

You can also use TeamViewer. It works great for remote control of both Macs and PCs. And it's free.

VNC, because unlike Windows Remote Desktop (which you can use too), I believe it keeps the target system unlocked.

If you are both running leopard then yes, it's built into iChat and she'll need to have 'screen sharing' enabled (I believe for iChat screenshare to work) and basically you'll click the button at the bottom to 'request a screenshare' or at least one of you needs to click that button.

There's a video on how to do this in the leopard tutorials section on the apple website.

Beyond that if she doesn't have leopard or a mac your kinda stuck with some third party tool that will allow her to see what you are doing which in the windows world would be a VNC type program, she'll need to run the server part and you'll install a client. Much like "TightVNC" or "RealVNC" and it'll have to be setup on her end (the server part) since this will allow her to see what you are doing.
Remote desktop (windows) will log out the current user and they won't see what's going on.
