Is there any noticable difference between playing a SD of HD movie on the iPhone 4S. SD still has more pixels than the iPhone display so there isn't any difference in quality. Is that correct?
    Thank you.

Depends on what the SD resolution is. You won't notice any differences with any resolution higher than 960 x 640.

What standard are you looking at?

'SD' tops out at 576i/p, so a maximum of 720*576 pixels, that's less than the iPhone 4/4S' display.

Okay. So when you weigh the opitions, SD is the better route to go. Unless I'm really picky and want it a tad bit crisper. HD will infact be slightly better due to SD not meeting the iPhone 4S display.

Well, that depends, if you're talking about movies sourced from iTunes then the resolution is less than 720*576. They're only 640*480 (anamorphic to fix the AR) IIRC.

    Eg for a 16:9 movie:

720p will give you 960*540 pixels [518400] on screen.
480p will give you 640*480 pixels [307200] on screen (stretched to 960*540).

720p will give you 41% more pixels.
