Hi do I bought the mx max on day one this past September. Frankly I got it unlocked, and it coincided my promotion at work

Well I have since bought an xr and prefer the xr for day to day use.

Should I sell my xs max? I always kinda regret selling my iPhone 2g (1st gen) and my 4th gen iphone. This max is in perfect shape with a screen protector. I have a buyer that’s gonna buy it for 930 this Saturday. I still owe money on the xr.... but can pay off the xr in a 2 months (zero interest). Should I keep the xs max? More so for collectors sake? What do you all think?

I don't think you understand how "collectors items" work. Unless you have some sort of emotional connection with this unit, sell it.

Sell it if u don’t use it as it will just be worth less every day.
If u wanna start a collection buy it in a few years. U will still find sealed units as with the 6s now for a fraction of the initial price

Your Max isn’t a collectors item. In order for it to be a collectors item, it would have to be some type of ‘limited model’ that was produced in a small quantity, this is a mass produced phone that really has no potential value long-term, and it’s already been opened and used by you.

But personally, if you don’t you have much use for the Max, I would sell it and keep the extra money.

Your iPhone XS Max will never be a collectors item. It will never be worth more than it is right now.

Other than a handful of historic devices, electronics only depreciate in value until they become obsolete and not even worth the raw materials they’re made of.

Psst, hey…you!

I got an iPhone 4, a 4s and an iPhone 5 I can sell you! Collector's items man! The 4 I can let go for about $1500, the 4s for $1800. But the 5 will cost you $2500. It's a launch day 5 and it's running the latest, greatest version of iOS 10.3.3!

Get them now! All of them are going to double the value I just quoted you by next year. No one has these phones my friend. They're special!

Let me know, you pay shipping and my handling fee of $500 for each phone.

It’s not sold until you have the cash in your hand. A promise to buy Saturday is worthless.

Who knows, everyone and their grandmothers owned a Nintendo back in the day, yet a refurbished one still runs a good $150 or more. As more kick the bucket and gen xers reach their mid life crisis stage in life, the prices will only go up.

I think one thing that makes me hesitate is that I paid so much and never getting the Value back that I’m like, maybe I should just keep it lol. I know it doesn’t make sense really....

U know that’s the case for almost every consumer product? Clothes, cars, computers, TVs...

After 1-2 years they lose about half of the value. Some faster.

With iPhones u usally can get the used premodel for 50% as soon as a new model hits the stores.

I never keep my phones, traded/sold every single one. I do however still have my old Blackberry Bold 9000 collecting dust. Best phone ever made imo but legit worth about two bucks now.

That’s the theory just with about any consumable device. Tech, cars, clothing items, etc., none of those things holds value, and it’s because it superseded by something else bigger and more updated. That’s the nature and evolvement of a general consumables.

The main thing is if you are using it or not, then it is best to "jump ship", and possibly doing so in sensible (and safe) way.
One suggestion is to meet up at a Police Station or in a store setting since you claimed you had a buyer previously.
