After all of the abuses of these rules by the GOP, I'm inclined to want massive rule changes, but then again, this could be a baby/bathwater situation which might lead to more eggregious violations in the future. Clearly they aren't afraid to use or abuse whatever rules are available to them, so I guess it may be wise to consider what might happen down the road.

Then again, if the Democrats use these same rules the way the Republicans have to obstruct otherwise reasonable legislation, then they suck too.

The rules don't need to be changed, the people do.

I don't have a good understanding of secret holds. But as for filibustering, I would like that to be done away with.

It all boils down to who is in command and what is the agenda. Someone is going to get bitten regardless. The Republicans/Democrats have loved filibusters, but if and when they (you pick) return to control, will be bemoaning them.

I think they should keep the filibuster but require an actual Mr. Smith Goes To Washington style filibuster. Right now the opposition just says they have 41 votes for a filibuster and that's it. If they had to stand in front of the Senate and read out of the DC phonebook to block things like healthcare and middle class tax cuts, they wouldn't be so quick to filibuster because the campaign commercials would write themselves.

I agree. If you filibuster, get your ass up and speak.

As for secret holds, these have to go. No one Senator should have that much power.

    bad bad idea.

Unless things real improve the Dems are going to loss both the senate and the Presidents office. Then the only weapon will be the fillibuster and lets face it we are going to be risking what little healthcare reform we did get.

Who knew Kanye was making a political statement about secret holds in the senate? ;)

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
    (21st century schizoid man)

The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open
We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’f-cka, we rollin’
    Huh? Ma’f-cka, we rollin’
With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands
In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen
So goodnight, cruel world, I see you in the mornin’
Huh? I see you in the mornin’
This is way too much, I need a moment

No one man should have all that power
The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours
Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power
‘Til then, f-ck that, the World’s ours
