    Hi All
Ive just purchased a Apple tv to go with my samsung led tv. I'm considering buying a set of active speakers, which I plan to connect optically to both the apple tv and the tv directly. I'm thinking this should enable watching regular tv with speakers on, apple tv with speakers on, but also streaming music to the apple tv directly from my iPhone with the tv off. Will this work? I'm considering getting the Jamo p404 active speakers.

It will work fine but keep in mind that there is a big chance the new, updated Apple TV3 might be announced along side with the iPad 3 next Wednesday. Keep eye on Apple news next week so you won't regret your purchase.

    This setup sounds certainly impressive.

May I ask if you have found alternatives? Jamo P 404 seem to be hard to get, also they are on the expensive side. Unfortunately I haven't found anything similar with optical input(s) and a switch between audio sources.

Maybe you have found a solution with a separate DAC/switch and cheaper active speakers?

I haven't found an alternative to the jamo speakers, can't seem to find any with the same specs. I thought about a different solution like you mention, I'd just like to avoid using dacs or such. I really like the elegance of he solution with the Jamos although they're pricy. I've found them for sale online here, in Denmark.

I think I'll go with the Behringer MS40 then, if I can find them for sale.

Didnt see those when I looked, but yeah they seem like a nice alternative, at less than third the price...

No Variable Audio with Any Samsung TV

Good idea for a setup using the Apple TV.

I was very frustrated to find that NO Samsung TV is able to use ANY Powered speakers - they all have fixed audio outputs. This means you cannot control a powered speaker set from the TV or Satellite remote.

Dumb, dumb and dumber - especially since users have been hounding them about this since 2008....

Well, the speakers I mention come with a remote. Also, for music, iTunes can controll the volume. Or I can hook up the speakers to the tv with the earphones out, in which case the tv remote will control the volume. So no Houston, not really an issue. But thanks for the input

Afaik it's not Samsung, the issue is using optical out, which doesnt let you controll the volume
