As more people take up iPads and more people do more with their iPads, our full computer needs are shrinking. Im getting a vision for a shared household computer. Like the days of one computer per family, but secondary and simultaneous:

3-10 iOS devices that handle 80% of their users needs
Occasional (non daily) remaining computer requirements
Mac Mini with accounts set up for each person
Mac Mini set up for remote access
RA apps on iPads gives everyone a virtual mac account

I do occasional remote access from my pad now, but its to gain quick access to a computer I either just was or soon will be in front of. This would be for getting actual (but occasional) work done.

Has anyone tried this, with multiple users?

It is very easy to create multiple user accounts, then each family member can sync their own devices with their own user account. You can leave each account logged in and use fast user switching to access your own account when needed.

Just make sure you have enough hard drive space to backup all the iDevices drive capcity total.

For me the problem with that is the small screen on the iPad compared to the 32" screen that I have on my Mini. Yes it is OK for occasionally checking on something that is already going on on the Mini, but not for routine work (for me at least). For younger people with better eyesight and more familiarity (and comfort) with portable devices the answer may be quite different.

This is certainly doable, but the lag from screen sharing would drive me nuts if I was trying to legitimately do work for any extended period of time.
