So it currently says that all phones will ship in October if you purchase it directly from Apple.com

Has anyone gotten estimates for when their phones will ship in October? Early, mid, late October?

Well I can tell you that I ordered mine 3 minutes after they went on sale and my expected delivery date is Oct. 7 - 10. So I'm guessing it would be towards the end of October if you ordered now.

I ordered 4 hours after the Apple.com store opened and I got "October" shipping date. It really sucks.

Although it'll probably vary widely depending on what color/carrier/size you order. If you want it as fast as possible then space gray is probably your best choice.

Ordered one for my wife on Tuesday and in the "October" group. Having such a wide open shipping date is frustrating. I mean 31 days? You can't be a little more specific Apple?

I ordered my 5S on release day and also got the Oct 7-10 shipping date. There are 5 Apple stores I can readily go to and every one of them have plenty of 5S & 5C in all GB readily available for in-store purchases. Granted some stores have lines around the store, nevertheless, each store receives shipments DAILY so they can easily handle the horde of customers.

I just cancelled my web order because it's ridiculous waiting for the Oct ship date when there are NO supply problems at my local Apple stores. FYI, it takes 24 hrs for you cancellation to take place before you can be eligible to do a store purchase/pick up. So keep that in mind.

Since I ordered online, I was hoping I could magically walk in the store and pick up my iPhone but that is not possible. You have to cancel the web order first. And you cannot purchase the iPhone in the store IF you have already placed a web order...well, not unless you buy an unlocked one...I am upgrading.

My co-worker called the local Apple store..they said they had plenty in stock now..told him to order online now and choose pick-up and they'll have an iPhone for him(there's a small window/time where you can actually select "store pick up"). My co-worked went an hour later and picked it up while bypassing everyone in the store line.

Again, kinda lame how the web orders are being processed..I was hoping I'd receive it faster than waiting in line.

Exactly my dilemma. It can go anywhere from October 1st to 31st. I'm currently looking for other options since I can still cancel my order online. However, until I find an iPhone 5S 32GB Gold contract free, I'll keep my order on queue.

Better off going to the store if you can

I just posted in another thread that Apple's strategy regarding web orders is similar to the pre-order strategy they employed previously. They would rather keep the brick and mortars stocked to stoke the iPhone frenzy with the resulting crowds at the stores than to fulfill online orders in a timely manner. I ordered within 15 minutes of the kickoff and I'm Oct. 7th-11th. I realize now these are pretty accurate estimates and they will not fulfill orders any earlier. Better to keep all the brick and mortars lightly stocked (and that includes the various electronics stores and the phone co. stores) by keeping them dribbling in a few at each location every day. I get it. Live and learn folks.

Yes but if I cancel my existing order, in hopes to find one in store and I don't, then I am further out of luck. Then if I keep my order, walk in and find one, how long will it take for my AT&T upgrade to free up if I hit cancel.

This isn't a life of death issue obviously, but a narrower say 5-7 day shipping window would be nicer that an entire 31 day month.

    Yep

They have you right where they want. I understand their strategy from a marketing perspective. But it sucks to be the guy waiting for their online order to get filled for a month. And there is no reason they can't just access the account from an Apple Store and cancel the order and give you the upgrade status back immediately if they wanted it to work that way. This is just another fly in the ointment to keep you waiting for the online order so the iPhone at the store goes to another now satisfied customer.

Issue is with how fast the carrier updates/reactivates the upgrade option (more of a carrier issue than an Apple issue). For many (including me) it took like 8 minutes after cancelling on Apple.com for the eligibility to be reinstated. Some others have not been so lucky and it has taken 24-48 hours.

So, it's kind of a crap shoot. Ideally one could go to the store, get a "card" upon arriving (Apple staff passes these out upon arrival essentially saying you get a phone when the next available specialist can get to you), and while you are waiting your turn you could use one of the Mac's on display to login and cancel your order (don't forget to log back out when you're done). By the time the specialist gets to you (which is just about always longer than 10 minutes (I waited like 75 minutes)) you should have your upgrade option reinstated.

If it were me I would (and did) chance it. But there is no guarantee so you'll have to decide for yourself.

On the plus side you will have a card indicating at least they have the phone at the store before you cancel anything (better than cancelling online, going to the store, and hoping they have a phone in stock) and you won't actually pay for anything unless the store has the phone and the upgrade goes through, so there's that.

I ordered about an hour and a half after ordering opened (didn't hear alarm) and got the nebulous "October" ship date. On Monday after it was reported here that in-store pick-up was live I cancelled my on-line order. It took about ten minutes before I was eligible for upgrade again YMMV. There were no phones in the area when I checked about 1pm on Monday. When I got home from work I checked again and most stores in the bay area had stock so I bought and picked up a gold 32g AT&T monday afternoon bypassing the line outside the store.

I really think you won't have to wait until the end of the month as they are ramping up production and I think in-store pick up may become available again before too long. I know thats vague but it comes down to cancelling your order and rolling the dice or not being able to pick up a phone that you just may happen upon because you have a web order pending.

    Good luck....you'll love it.
