So, if they banned all firearms tomorrow how many of these outstanding pillars of our communities would turn in their guns?

They were serving a Narcotics Warrant according to local news. Sorry gun haters, this is a drug war, laws don't apply.

Somehow I suspect that the firearms used by the "suspects" are not of the legal variety.
I will make a prediction. News focus will be on "Assault Weapons", "Semi Automatics", "Long Guns", "Everything Else" in that order.

FWIW info wise....local news so far has said that there are 3 suspects still in the building, 2 officers as well. 6 officers were shot, non-life threatening. 2 officers were in an auto accident en route to the scene and one officer was hit in the head by a local resident, why, who knows?

Philadelphia Police's relationship to some of it's residents, wasn't always the best. Even dating before MOVE.

This appears to be a narcotics bust that’s gone completely sideways. This sounds a lot more like gang violence than a mass shooting perpetrated by ideology and/or the mentally ill.

It was always seen as that. The officers were serving a warrant, when it all went bad. No talk about ideology or mental illness has come up.

In Philly though, police standoffs like this have a horrible history. Which is why I imagine the police are demonstrating such patience & restraint despite what has happened to their brothers.

Do your police not seize weapons when they do criminal raids? Of course criminals aren’t going to hand all their weapons in, some will. It’s about seizing and limiting the supply chain to decrease this nonchalant approach to keeping weapons obtainable by the masses and criminals.

All the while making victims of the people that turned their weapons in.
But who cares about those people, gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette.

When it comes to talking points like these there seems to be an leaning towards the “needs” of the few and ignore the many.
    Don’t get it.

Violence will never end, until all life ends.
    Reason can reduce it though.

Are all the criminals sat there praying guns are banned so they can launch an attack on all the responsible gun owners who will suddenly be disarmed then? Is that a reality or fear-mongering by the pro gun lobby?

Not fear-mongering, a large percentage of mass shootings at least the ones that the major news outlets love to promote are in “gun-free” zones. One of the reasons is because they know people won’t be shooting back. Not many mass shootings at firing ranges or guns shows...

If guns a rare then everywhere will be a gun free zone with nobody shooting anybody. That’s the reality of countries where few guns are in circulation and we haven’t got this worry of being shot in the mall, cinema, schools and criminals invading your homes etc.

No instead you have to worry about getting stabbed to death without any way to protect yourself aside from being a shut-in.

Which begs the question, why was the media reporting on this with headlines that would make one think this was an attack on police?
