from 2007-2018, every year i buying new iphone 64GB storage ,should i continue buying same way 64GB or 256GB , understand little more money, and i get new every year ,

currently iphone X 64GB
available 28 GB
14,268 photo in album

does bigger storage keep phone smoother touch instead if low storage ????

28gb is a lot of free space; almost half the available after the OS (64gb is before the OS)

I dont see why pay $150 more honestly. Offload some of those photos unless you always need 14k of photos with you for some reason.

How much free space does a 64gb phone have? I have 483 gigs free of my 512gb XS Max and want to downgrade. I’m wondering if I’m ok with 64 or if I need a 256.

You have plenty of room. I always buy the 64GB variant and I currently have over 40GB free on my Xs. So much is stored on the cloud these days.

With that usage whatever made you think you’d need to have the 512gb model?

The 64gb would have been more than enough for you and you’d have saved quite a bit of money.

I have the same dilemma. Currently on X 64 GB with 43 GB free. Probably it makes no sense for me to ugprade to 256. Can 11 pro max photos and ios system be so much larger that 64 GB would be insufficient?

i have used 35G of 64G e have a litlle more of 1 hour to decide!! I have too 200G icloud service.

Maybe stay with 64G...what a F.... decision!!

will iphone pro get slower when storage went down 5 GB available ????

My experience with computers goes back to the days of DOS (Old Timers will know what that is.). I still recommend, and live by, the maxim that was popular then. “Get the maximum amount of storage that you can afford, you’ll not regret it.” An iPhone is simply a handheld computer with a phone attached so the maxim is still relevant.

There can be some performance inconsistencies if you are out of free space or pretty low on it (like below 2 or 3 GB). It can also impact you being able to install updates when they come out as downloading, extracting, and installing them usually requires some free space too. These days keeping probably about at least 4 or 5 GB free is likely a good idea.

Look at your usage and how much has it gone up per year if last year you had 30 GB free and this year you have 28 GB free that means it went up by 2 GB per year. Unless you plan on a massive photo shoot or downloading thousands of extra songs or something weird this year it would be silly to buy more than 64 GB. Now if last year you had 40 GB free and this year you have 28 GB free you might consider buying more storage but I find this scenario unlikely. Only you will know the answer to this of course.

Edit to fix math

I decided to go for the 256gb version this time. I have the iPhone X 64gb and have about 30gb remaining. I can see myself using the phone more because of the increased battery life, better screen and speakers. I do commute a lot on the subway where there is no wifi or cell connection, would be great to store extra content for offline usage. For those who have access to wifi or a cellular network you can probably get by with 64gb if needed.

ssd performance hinders when over certain capacity is being utilized. apple's ssd are no different

https://pureinfotech.com/why-solid-state-drive-ssd-performance-slows-down/

"The problem is that SSDs can’t use the leftover space in a block to write new data directly, because it would actually destroy any data already on it.

The solution to this problem is a write operation that loads the data inside of a block into cache, modifies its content adding the new data, and then write pages back to the block.

The only caveat is that the entire process takes time, and repeating the process on many blocks reduces speeds dramatically, and therefore affecting performance"

basically its never good to have only 5-10gb of storage left. it will shorten the life span of ssd NAND.

i personally never bought the base storage, but hey thats just me.
