Mind you, I have AppleCare so it's not the cost that's the issue. It's just that I don't know if i want to waste one of my two incidents on such a minor crack just two months after getting the phone. If I knew for sure that i would upgrade next year, I would definitely fix it immediately. At first I was ok with it, but it's been over a week now and it's kinda becoming an eye sore. What would you do?

Oh and here's a warning for you guys: Don't leave your phone on vibrate anywhere near the edge of a table unattended. My phone was about 5 inches away from the edge of my kitchen table, a customer called me four times while I was asleep in the living room and my phone vibrated right off the table onto the tile floor. I woke up from my nap with my poor phone laying face down. In case you were wondering, I called the customer back and jokingly let him know he broke my phone and asked what he needed. He wanted to know if I have iPhone X cases in stock at my shop. He came in the next day and purchased two of them and a tempered glass screen protector.

Repair it. There is no telling if that crack will get worse or expand if you drop the phone again, which could result in even more damage. Personally, there is no way I would want to look at an iPhone X with a cracked display, take advantage of your AppleCare, it's why you paid for it.

I'd rather have it expand and get worse if i drop it again, instead of fixing it now and then dropping and cracking it again. Which is what I'm afraid will happen. Of course, I could always start using a case. Bleh.

If your intentions are not to repair it, then I would suggest a case as well. But I guess that's the risk you're going to take knowingly that if you do in advertently drop it, the end result could be worse.

For this being a random incident where you didn't necessarily drop the iPhone, it just fell off the counter due to the vibration, then you can at least know that you're more Cautious in the future, which is still reason Enough I would repair it just because of the unknown factor.

Worth noting your water resistance is probably 0% now. So any amount of splashing, rain and possibly even steam could potentially kill your phone.

Not at all. There’s no hole in my phone

That doesn't mean that your water resistant could not be compromised due to the above circumstances listed above from another member. Especially given if moisture does penetrate through the cracks, that's going to be difficult to explain to Apple if they observe moisture under the display.

By the looks of it there is a crack in your screen... hard to belie but that glass isn't all that thick and those cracks almost certainly penetrate all the way to the inside of your device.
That’s not quite how they’re built. The glass is actually a lot thicker than people give it credit for, and most cracks deep enough for water to penetrate through would also completely damage and LCD/OLED display. Furthermore, there’s layers in the display plus a metal plate separating the back of the display from the rest of the components inside the phone, so if by some insane chance water got in that way it likely wouldn’t ever touch the logic board. A lot of people also don’t realize that an iPhone’s “water resistance” is only a very thin strip of adhesive that goes around where the screen meets the frame. When you do a screen repair, you actually destroy that adhesive. We always replace it the best we can, but it’s never as good as from the factory. I’m also a bit skeptical that the employees who repair screens at the Apple store can fully replicate the factory adhesive. So ironically, a screen repair can actually reduce your water resistance.

I fix these things for a living, by the way.

Even if your theory is correct that you're skeptical about employees who repair screens from Apple if they can fully replicate the factory water resistance, that means They stand behind their work if something was not fully repaired properly. I would say the majority of iPhones repaired under Apple are fairly close to specification from factory, but there's no way of knowing that entirely.

That said, I would trust Apple more to make a screen repair than I would a third-party repair store. At least I know Apple would warranty their work regardless, where as Apple can't guarantee any service by a third party repair.

Another side. If you are on an upgrade program and only keeping 1 year then 1 incident on Care + is ½ the percentage it would be if you are keeping it for 2 years. So if upgrading next year I would replace it and if keeping for 2 years I would probably procrastinate.

How often do you break phones?

Just because you cracked it now, doesn’t mean you’ll do it again 2x more in the next 2 years. It’s only the 3rd breakage in 2 years that’s a problem.

I’d not be able to use a phone that looked like that. I’d be straight to the Apple store!

Well that’s the thing, I don’t know if I plan on upgrading. Knowing myself I most likely will upgrade.

That’s a good point. This is the first time I’ve broken an iPhone in 10 years of ownership, and I didn’t even break it myself! Lol
