I know there have been a ton of these threads, but perhaps my question is a bit unique. I have the opportunity to basically trade my like-new 13" 2011 MBP (base model) for a 2010 11" Ultimate MBA. Is this a fair trade?

USE: I will use the machine mostly for websurfing, youtube, email, light gaming (CS:S), etc. Nothing heavy like video editing or anything.

EDIT: I'm not that mobile ATM, but I like to carry a computer around the house with me. Also, I had a netbook as my portable PC for the last year or so.

(I would actually be selling mine and buying the MBA seperately)

Is this a fair even trade? Am I winning in this trade?

Assuming they are physically similar (mint, etc) go to the Apple store and price them both out to see if the retail prices are similar.

Na, keep the i5 MBP. Its upgradeable, resellable (core2duo is being phased out) and has better battery which if you want to move around...thats key.

Some people might get on me saying core2duo is is. But with Lion coming out and the fact that Apple won't really be selling core2duo anymore once the update comes out....

I say just be happy with the MBP or wait for the new Airs to release.

Thanks for the responses. I can still return my MBP until tomorrow night, so I'll either hold onto it or return it, and not do any trade.

For what you do, the 11'' Ultimate would be sufficient. Now, if you would be "winning" on that trade, it's a different story.

The point of a 11'' is to be portable. While you like to walk around the house, that is barely the definition of portable; for that sort of scenario, the MBA's main argument - portability - really doesn't matter that much. I think a 13'' MBP would suit you best, simply because it'll last you longer and fulfil new, more demanding needs in a much more satisfactory way.

However, the MBA is a fine laptop. Again, both fit your needs. It's just on the one hand you have the extra mobility, and on the other, the extra power. FOr your situation I'd go with extra-power, but it's really up to you.
