I have read that people had problems updating their mac minis with double internal drives from Sierra to High Sierra, was that only for the earlier versions of High Sierra?

Anyway, my question, should I update? Do I need to do a workaround like in the linked article, where one of the internal drives are disconnected?

I wish to update in order to use specific software not compatible with Sierra.

What I have:
Sierra 10.12.6
Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
2,6 GHz Intel Core i7
2 x 251 GB internal SSD
2 x 8 GB RAM

Nice setup! Mine is on El Cap and only 1 drive currently but I have a new SSD to install in it. I too, am thinking of what would be the best OS to go with.

I have the 2012 Mini quad non-Server, so I ordered an additional SATA cable from China and installed a second drive. Now it's a 16GB, 128GB SSD+1TB HDD running Catalina... no problems after a couple of years on this setup.

If you're upgrading, I would go at least to Mojave as Apple no longer supports High Sierra with any security updates. I have never had any issues upgrading the various 2012 Minis I have at work or at home.

Thanks a lot, I'll go for Mojave then, but where do I find it? Edit: I found it, choose to download 10.14.6 combo-update, is that a good choice?

You need the full installer, not the combo update.

See the Mojave link to the App Store for the full installer.

Thank you CoastalOR, that was what I needed, I also discovered that Firefox won't take me there, but Safari does.

Be aware that Mojave starts wanting you to "upgrade" to APFS. Those drives will not be readable by older Macs.
I tried Mojave, then decided to stick with High Sierra.
Got new Minis, so now I'm stuck in Big Sur and have to rewrite most of my AppleScripts.

Thank you. So far I have not noticed any problem, hope it remains that way.
